I don't even have this head yet (which is killing me) ...but in the pictures there is a send and return jack on the back. The prior owner never used them and didn't provide any additional information. Are those 1/4" jacks always in place whether or not the effects loop option is installed, or would they be blocked off without the option? Also, how well do the Dr. Z loops work and does the amp take any hit in overall tone compared to a non effects loop amp?

The 1/4 jacks will be working if they are on the amp. They work great, and won't damage your tone. You can run reverb, delay, or even a boost signal into them with great results. Enjoy your new Z.... with the master volume control on this unit you can custom taylor your sound levels any way you want.

Congrats on your new amp. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I had never owned an amp with an effects loop until I got my Maz combo. My reverb pedal sounds so much nicer running through the loop.
kledbet's post indicates that a boost can be run through the loop as well as the time-based effects. I don't currently own a clean boost pedal so I can't try it myself but I was wondering if anyone who has tried a boost like the RC or Fatboost in the loop can tell me about the difference between running it in the loop (bypassing the preamp?) vs in front of the amp?

Excellent !! Thanks, I will post an update when it arrives. UPS says Monday is the day.
