From what I've heard, this should be a great amp !! My Prescription is killing my ears I hope the Maz can get some great tones as good as the Prescription, but at a reduced volume. The next thing is, I wonder what cab will work well with the amp? I have an Avatar 2x12, a Hiwatt 4x12 and a no name baltic birch 1x12 to work with. All are closed backs. My speaker choices are: Celestion Vintage 30s, G12H30s, Greenbacks, Black Shadows or G12H80s. I was thinking the G12H30s would be a good place to start...... or maybe one V30 and one G12H ? Any suggestions?

Zone 47.......There are so many choices, and the ones you've picked out should sound great. I'm playing my Maz 18 through a home made open back cab, with one 12" and one 10". The 10 is a Weber silver Alnico, and the 12 has been a Weber Blue Dog, or a V30. Both ways, it sounds pretty good. I have a 2x12 closed back cab with 70 series Celestions that I usually use for higher wattage amps, and it sounds pretty dark with the Maz. If you started with the one V30 and one G12H, I'd say you're on the right track, just my opinion. I hope this helps your tone search.................weedman

Thanks, I just got the amp yesterday and have been swapping tubes around. It came with all JJs, but I put a Tungsol in V1 and may try a few more today. So far I am plugged into a 4x12 Hiwatt cab with 2 Vin30s and 2 G12H30s ...... sounds pretty nice.

Congrats on the new Maz. It sounds like you have a good choice of speakers to play with. The Tungsols I tried sounded great clean but I didn't much care too much for the way they sounded when pushed with a boost pedal. Of the current production tubes, the Svetlana in V1 sounded best to me.

Well, Zone47, your topic did me some good. When I first responded to this thread, I had some Groove tubes on order for my Maz 18 head. Just plug and play, and they sounded great, but your question about cabs got me wondering. The only "closed" cab I had seen anyone recommend on this forum (that I can remember) was the Thiele ported "Z" cab. I had an empty 2x12 cab sittin' on the shelf, so I put a G12H 70th Anniversary, and a Ceramic Tone Tubby in it. I must say it sounded much better than the open back 1x10/1x12 cab I'd been using. I played the 2x12 out this weekend at a local pub, and I could not believe all the compliments I got on the tone. I've played for many years, with many different amp setups, and never got responses like this. So, thanks for posting this question, and getting my imagination stirring.
