Which combo do you prefer and why..... looking to trade out or sell a RXES head and thought I wanted a Z-28 head, but maybe the MAZ Jr. combo is the way to go. Just trying to do my due diligence before making the jump.
I already have a Rt-66 head and some Z cabinets and thought I'd get a head or combo that fit under the 66 that gave me some different tonal options.

If you like the 66 I think you'll LOVE a Ghia. MAZ Jr's are cool, I prefer the NR. I've only had a head that I played through a Z Best but the 2x10 combo's I've heard played in a live band situation set well in the mix. I have a 2x12 Jr NR combo due next week so I'll have more info then.
If I was to grab one today, a combo that is, I'd struggle with the same issue. Tough decision.

The Maz 2-12 sounds great but it is bloody heavy !! A head and 2-12 rig would have it's advantages over a combo for that reason .

I have the NR head w 3 cabs and the 2x10 reverb combo. I like the 2x10 cab with the NR head the best. The reason is that the 2x12 is just a little to bassy for me especially when you are turning up the amp. I think great sounds can be had with almost any speaker combo, but for me the 2x10 just dials it in the fastest. I also like using the heads with different cabs so you can mix and match to come up with a variety of sounds. The combos are great to, so if you get one you'll like it.

I can't speak to the 2X12, as I've never heard a Z 2X12. I do love a Marshall 2X12, FWIW...
But I *do* have a Maz jr 2X10, & it's (as we say here in MA) the balls. And I don't usually care for 10" speakers. This is one tight combo!

I tested the 2X10 and bought the 2X12. I visited with Mike and, based on what I play and what I like, he suggested it. I'm very happy with it, although it is heavy. The 2X12 sounds more Fenderey when you dial the cut knob down low in the 2X12. I also, on occasion, plug the speakers from my concert reverb (4X10) into my Maz Jr and get a sweet sound that's much fuller than what I heard from the 2X10 Maz Jr I tried out. But that may be a my memory ear talking and is not a side-by-side comparison, so don't put too much stock on that.
What ever speaker set up you get, the Maz Jr is one of the best amps ever made and very versatile.

Your decision may depend on what kind of guitar you are playing. I originally bought my 2X12 Maz Jr. for my tele and strats on the heels of Brad P. I have come to like my single coils through the Z, but I must say that my humbucker equipped Les Pauls really sing with the 2X12 config. Maybe even better than the SC's. My ears usually direct me to 12's for humbuckers and 10's for single coils. Major generalization however and not considering tubes or speakers.

I had every intention of buy a Maz with 12" speakers and then I plugged into one with tens and I bought it.
I play in 60's soul/funk band with a tele stocked with Fralin pickups and I absolutely have to have a clean tone that makes you glad that you are alive. The Maz with tens does just that. Clear, bell like and real soulful. I know the twelves are great also but the tens really did it for me.
