You can run the Direct Drive (and the Gain Changer) on 9V or 18V. A lot of times when I've got that option, 18V works better for me.
What do you guys think, high or low voltage?

Dave - assuming you received the direct drive and tried it, how do you like it?
I haven't tried 18v yet, but one other pedal in particular (angry Charlie), I could deal with it at 18v and couldn't stand it at 9v. Basically had 0 dynamics at lower voltage and acted a little more like an amp at 18v. Only other pedal I tried like that was my origin compressor and it didn't really make a difference for me there.

I'm really liking it, it's a great sounding pedal. I haven't tried 18v yet either. Super glad that I followed up on the reviews here, it's my second Barber pedal and they're both great. It's going to be on my board for tomorrow morning's praise band work.

I’ll try the 18v tomorrow. I have voltage doublers on hand for times like this. LOL 😆

So I gave it a whirl. Minimal difference, I. Do believe this is what I found before with pedals. Yes something there, but if you didn’t have it at 18v you wouldn’t miss it.

I too am a fan/user of the Gain Changer. Barber pedals are top notch.

I submitted my request today for a Direct Drive that is kinda between V3 and V4 that Mr Barber is going to make me through the B Custom Label. I also asked for a Tone Pump which he makes through the B Custom Label, hope to get that order in this week as soon as my pedal sale money comes in.
I wanted the Voice Switch that is available in V4 but did not need the HI/LO Gain Switch and would rather have the “Harmonics” switch that V3 has. It was a no problem, the Harmonics switch came in handy depending on the guitar. My Tele is low harmonics, but my Junior liked the bump the switch provided.

Funds Raised just waiting on my invoice. Custom Built Direct Drive, Tone Pump, and a Tone Press. When I get into something I go deep, it’s what I do.

Side Note: I picked up a used WGS BlackHawk HP that I should have Mon/Tues.

Let’s talk about customer service. I get an email yesterday from David Barber basically saying. “Hey Shawn I finished up your LG Direct Drive and it sounds great. I tested it next to the shop Tone Pump (I ordered a TP too) and I have to say they are very similiar and they overlap quite a bit. I wanted to know if that was OK or if you wanted to cancel the other order or maybe choose another pedal?”
David made a couple of suggestions and I changed my order to a B-Custom LTD. He also suggested the Gain Changer which overlaps with the LTD and could probably get me to whee I’m going to but I since I paid for a B-Custom already I opted for the LTD B-Custom.
So looking forward to both pedals, and I really looking forward to them.

David Barber is top notch to work with. Dr.Z and Barber are great examples of how companies should treat their customer base.

I have been using my Direct Drive for a few weeks now and find I really like it, so much so it is on more than off. It has these subtle snarly overtones that I am finding I really like. I just ordered a Burn Unit that should be here by the weekend, I am looking forward to giving it a try!

My B Custom Direct Drive, B Custom LTD, and a B Stock Tone Press should be here by the weekend as well.

So the pedal sale has work out nicely. I was able to order my B Custom LG version of the Burn Unit and I decided after messaging with David that I would order a LG version of the Tone Pump as well. Even though I’m using the LTD in a really unorthodox manner, I stepped away from playing a couple of days and when I came back to it, I didn’t miss my Way Huge STO. So the LTD LG really does a good job of staying pretty neutral, like a nice preamp, but since it’s a B Custom you can now tweak the low end to taste.
The whole point of going with Barber was to try to be able to Taylor my pedals that I already liked and have a little more flexibility. I change amps and guitars and instead of being frustrated and changing out a pedal, I can simple reach down, flip the switch and back to work. His sensitivity switch that he uses and I had in the V3 Version of the Gain Changer really opened my eyes when it comes to switching out guitars. I requested it on my B Custom Gain Changer and love it.
