I suspect your decision has been made but this is a follow up to my earlier reply. I installed an Eminence GA SC64 yesterday. I’ve been enjoying the stock cream back, but found the mid forward aspect of it a bit dominating for my ear. Seems all my drive pedals are adding mid frequency, and I was always fighting with too much of a good thing. The SC64 seems to have solved this with a more balanced frequency response and extended, lows and highs. My drives now deliver the boost and mid push I’m after and the speaker allows me to sit back in the mix when needed. It’s early days for sure but this is a good start. In addition, the clean tones are now more favourable to archtops and solo finger work. Thanks for this man! I’m in the process of breaking in the creamback. I tend to play more clean to edge of break up, so I’ll take a look at the sc64 as an option down the line.

Tried an eminence red white and blues last night and couldn’t take it out fast enough. Creamback is back in the amp. This combo cab is simply fantastic. I feel like the creamback in this cab is really special so far. I don’t have the heart to remove the j75 from my Carr mercury to try it out in this cab yet. Been hitting the creamback with a lot of volume and fuzz these past few days. Can’t wait till it’s nice and broken in.

The speaker hasn’t changed its voice as some other speaker I’ve broken in it’s just sounds like a vocalist who’s done a regime of warm up exercises before performance. More open and responsive and depth with room for frequencies. A delight. I thinking because this is a lower powered speaker 40 watt vs the Creambacks 65 I do notice a much better tone at lower volumes. The creamback seemed to stop responding when not enough volume was pushing it and all you’re left with is higher frequencies. The SC64 is full sounding right down to acoustic guitar volumes. In my world that makes the amp far more versatile for me.

So curiosity got the best of me and I finally tested the scumback j75 in the z28 combo cab. I can see why the doc probably didn’t go with the H magnet celestion. The j75 (which is supposed to be kind of inbetween an M and H magnet) in the z28 was just a bit too bright sounding to my ear, especially when compared to the g12m-65 which continues to be the best speaker for this amp to my ears (compared to the speakers I have at home at the moment). I’m curious about the celestion alnico cream and am casually looking for one to try in my z28, but I feel like the creamback is getting sweeter as I continue to play it. I feel like I’ll prefer the alnico as I love that sound, but so far the creamback is doing it’s thang and I’m loving the amp!

I have certain speakers that work better with certain amps, BUT, if i could only have 1 speaker, in 1 cab, for all my amps, it would be the GA12-SC64! Just an outstanding all around peaker.

Hov I have a 2X12 cab with 2 Alnico Creams and another with an Alnico Gold and Alnico Cream, both are oval open backs and both sound incredible with my MKII head.

Just ordered an open box 8ohm alnico cream for a great deal! Should be here by the end of the week!

I considered long and hard doing the same thing but went with a more American sound of the GA-SC64. It’s just breaking in and is addictive. I’m playing mostly clean to lights drive tones. Best I’ve experienced in forty years of searching.

Might move a few other speakers to get the sc64. We will see!

The cream is here and in the Z28 MKII. So far I’m loving everything about it! I’ll wait to give my impressions after a few days. The tung sol 5881 came as well and man, what a difference it makes. So much better than the 6l6 I had in the amp. What a phenomenal amp!

Here’s a few clean clips of my Collings 290 through the z28mkii with the alnico cream. So far I’m really happy with this pairing. This is at bedroom ish levels. The speaker in general is more balanced than the creamback, but still has some chime and sparkle on the top end without being overly bright. I’m really enjoying it right out the box. The creamback is still no slouch if I’m being honest and does sound great as well. I’m really enjoying the alnico in this amp though. http://instagram.com/p/C3DboLAxOY5

The Alnico Cream was 2nd in line, only beat out by the Creamback as we thought it was an overall more versatile sound between clean and dirty, trying to cover all bases. The Alnico Cream clean sound is really stellar though. And we have them in stock, no problem is someone wants one in place of creamback for a special order!

Frankie I am equally floored by how it sounds dirty! I was pushing the amp with my R2R treble booster nordland odr-c and Lightspeed all stacked in that order and the alnico cream took it in stride and sounded phenomenal. The creamback is amazing too and is a great option for this amp for sure. To me from a tone and cost perspective, I can see why you’d choose the creamback over the alnico, it allows you to offer this amp at an extremely competitive price. Weird to say this but I like the z28 mkii more than the lux I had. I am still shocked as to how this amp is only $2049 new.

I play my Z 28 MK two through Scumback M55-60-PVC 1x12 and M75+J75 2X12 and G12M 65 Creamback+G12-65 2x12 I think the Scumback speakers are the most toneful, most of sonicly pleasing Speakers you can get. Send Jim an email or give him a call and tell him the sound you're looking for. He will make you the best speaker you can get. He's done that for me three times :-)

What Scumback were you using? I'm running the stock creamback in the combo and I've been looking at the Scumback M75, SC75 and S75-PVC Alnico as potential options. Thanks H55-PVC 65w Great speaker!
