After owning three pre-mod EZG heads, I finally decided to take the current one (2008) in to my tech for a checkup and to have the bass mod done. It will be interesting to hear the difference and be able to (hopefully) use more of the full sweep of the knob.

After owning three pre-mod EZG heads, I finally decided to take the current one (2008) in to my tech for a checkup and to have the bass mod done. All I have done to it since I bought it was check the bias, replace V1 with a 5751 and make a hardwood valence. It was kind of a spur of the moment decision as the amp has worked fine since I got it. It will be interesting to hear the difference and be able to (hopefully) use more of the full sweep of the knob. Report back when you get it. Eager to hear your experience.

This is an "I got it back from the tech" update. I just spent about an hour with it and my initial takeaway is that being able to use the entire sweep of the bass knob opens up all of those crazy Dr Z T\M\B (and even pre\post) settings that just weren't as available pre-mod. Like going from a two knob to a three knob tone stack.

That was my experience also. My EZG needed a minor repair, and I had a local tech do the mod in consultation with Don when the amp was in for the fix. Mine is sitting on a 4x10 open back cab. It is glorious!

I would suggest calling Don in the Dr Z service department. He can likely help you and your tech come to a solution.

unfortunately Don cut me off. he says the only way is to send amp to them and they don't give instructions or explanations. since I am in Italy I have no chance. I'm sorry I wasn't helped. i will probably change those two capacitors and settle for that. thanks

FYI, the schematic I used shows replacing the two caps plus the bass pot. If you search the older EZG bass mod threads, you should be able to find the schematic.
The Z repair shop makes its living doing mods and repairs to Z amps. I'm not at all surprised (and fully support) that they don't provide the details so folks can do the current mods themselves. I understand that you are in a unique position living in Europe. Shipping costs and risks alone would be prohibitive. Good luck.

Thanks yes the problem is my geografic position. i can't ship nor buy a new ezg! . i understand Don's position. I had read that others had been helped perhaps they have changed policy over the years. all right. not a problem. so we have those two caps and pots to change. what about the switch that makes it sound soft or stiff? does it act on negative feedback? thanks

Hi Gaetano, Sorry if you're simply looking for information pertaining to the EZG bass reduction mod, it's not a problem, I will email you. Where I have to draw the line is when someone requests "current voicing" or MKII related information This is not due your location, we just as politely decline to provide it to US customers as well. Thanks Don Depew DRZ Repairs

thank you very much ... the bass mod is a necessity..the voice modification a curiosity ... i understand your position very well and i'm happy if you give me instructions for the bass mod because i love your amp .. just reduce the bass a bit would make it even easier to play. Thank you.

The original bass mod is a huge improvement based on my fairly brief experience so far. It makes a very good big bottle BF type amp into a great amp IMO. I never wanted to change the original EZG voicing and I have no use for a level control so I didn't consider sending mine back to Z-land for the current mods. Z takes care of the owners of his amps. Many times, above and beyond the call of duty. Glad you are going to get it worked out.

thanks .. I love ezg because with pre and post I can shape the voice I want .. deeper or more "crunchy" I just wish it could be leaner and raw less swollen sometimes ... I am convinced that by decreasing the impact of low I can handle it better. ps sounds good even at relatively low volumes. I also found that more "off" less rich tubes on v1 helps me. among the current tubes it sounds great with the jj 6l6 and sovtek as a rectifier valve

Hi Don repairz , Just curious, can you please elaborate what the level control mod is? Unless I missed it, I can't see any info on it. You updated/modded/add the switch to the back of my EZG last year. Thanks, Joe
