Every time I plug in to my Ghia, a small studio cab loaded with a 10" Greenback, I just shake my head in wonder. It's the fullest, fattest, baddest little amp I've got. And I've got 13 Z amps plus various Marshall, Fender, and Vox, plus a handful of home builds. I ended up putting a Brake Lite attenuator in it too, just to make it perfect for mornings like today when I can't sleep. 4:30AM and some great tone. I love all my Z amps, or they wouldn't be here...but there's something about this amp that's very special.
Two knobs and the truth. That's the Ghia.

I have wondered this for years now how does a drummer know how to pull the sounds out of an amplifier the way this man does?

I have wondered this for years now how does a drummer know how to pull the sounds out of an amplifier the way this man does? Well, that is a good question here's my take. I have always had good ears. I was the guy my friends would take with them when they were buying a stereo for my recomindation , remember when there were Audio Stores with listening rooms, oh the good old days. So I always had a keen ear , and a good sense of rhythm which drove me to become a drummer. I have always surrounded myself with excellent guitarists who would demo my creations and we both would comment on the response and adjust if needed. Not being a guitarist has worked in my favor , no preconceived vision of the sound in my head that I push on others ( i.e. Leo Fender, Jim Marshall ) Guys building guitar amps isn't rocket science , good practical knowledge of tube theory , the ability to source and build a reliable solid unit, a lot of hours of development, and let the player do the rest. Maybe not rocket science, more like black magic. Right on Dave, I love the amp too. In the midst of moving my basement studio stuff around again for the 100th time, the only thing I had setup was a CAZ and EMS because someone asked me "which one to buy" and I thought I should play through each and get some observations. Anyway, drummer friend stopped by and we jammed a little and I started with the CAZ and he said "that thing sounds fantastic". Then we started playing some other stuff and I switched to the EMS and he said the same thing. Same type of genre, completely different tone/feel/dynamics, but both just as killer as the other. Truly enjoyable experience, and I don't think I've played either yet just for fun with a drummer. Fast forward a couple days and have a bunch of amps lined up and was flipping through those. I don't know what it is about the Ghia, but that thing is just the most full, and enjoyable thing to play. Super clean and hifi the way I have it set, and it has the most wonderful compression to it. Not too much, not too little, just right.

Z Well you my friend are the best at what you do! I will never own any other amp as long as I'm alive! And without you knowing it personally I have brought you business through out the years (friends and associates)! Thank You for all you do Doc!

Leo Fender dabbled with the piano and saxophone, but new nothing about playing the guitar.
