CAZ-45, owner.. I have swapped out my 1x12 Mesa Boogie cabs, closed and open with Alnico Cream-open back and Ruby- closed back. Smoothened out the Black Shadow harshness.. full range.. and WOW! Any one else experimented with Alnico speakers? Btw...I now have 2 Blk Shdw speakers to get rid of....lol

Interesting that you are using Alnico with the CAZ. What style of music are you using it for? I would imagine the Alnicos would be great for lower gain, classic rock sounds which, by the way, I hear the CAZ excels at.

Classic rock yes....not into amp being on "11"..lol Santana, ZZ Top to Uriah Heep style...even when I played MB's Black Shadow for over 30 years felt they were a bit harsh sounding When Boogie were loaded with EV's now that rocked...but in a combo weight allot.

I really like the CAZ into a Splawn 2x12 with Alnico Cream and regular creamback. So yes!

When I order my CAZ I’m going to be ordering a matching open-back 212 with G12-65s 😎

I actually bought a brown soun open back 212 with tone tubby alnico reds, about the same time as the caz 45. But not necessarily to use together. More by happenstance. IMO they’re not an ideal match. But I’ve also not spent a ton of time using them together. And they don’t sound bad together. They just do something I’m not used to, and whatever it is doesn’t quite work for me. So far. I’m def going to keep experimenting.

I have several cabs I use with my CAZ:
4x12 straight with Eminence Red Fangs Big, fat and greasy 4x12 slant with Celestion G12C Classic 60s-70s Marshall vibe 2x12 open back with Alnico Creams Complex sounding with great character but sometimes I wish it had a bit more bite 2x12 open back with Avatar A50s Take a G12H, a Greenback and a Blue and put them in a blender and out pops these. I love them! 2x10 open back with Celestion Golds A bit dark for some but this old Vox cab from 1965 sounds huge for a 2x10 with Golds
I don't do the modern metal thing and only go about as far as Gary Moore type OD levels. For what I do, the alnicos work better for me. When pushed, they add a tactile response that makes them feel alive. Ceramics tend to crunch, alnicos compress. This difference becomes very obvious at stage volumes, not so much at home volumes.
I just did a gig last week with the CAZ through the 2x10 cab and it kicked azz. The house sound engineer was practically giddy just raising my mic level with nary an EQ adjustment.
That being said, if you want to do the modern metal thing, you really want the tightness of ceramics. As for those Mesa Black Shadows, if they are the C90s, I hate those things with a passion. They are harsh, overly tight and just have no character. I am sure they may work for others but for me, I will pass. As for the Alnico Creams, I love the way they feel and everything from the lows through the mids. They are excellent for taming harsh upper mids and highs but sometimes I do wish they just had a bit more bite. However, I have been using the Aggression control more as a way to dial in more bite for my alnicos and have been very successful with that approach.
