I have a Maz 18 Jr Reverb head coming and I’d like to get some more info of which Z cab might suit me best. I was thinking there were 2 types of 1x12’s but apparently there is one. I’ve got an Alnico Cream I might use.
Anyone like different speakers other than the G12H30 and V30?

I haven't had an Alnico Cream with my Maz 18's, but have tried several. I'm currently using a Vintage 30. I thought the G12H30 was a bit bright and didn't have enough mids for me. I really like the WGS Reaper HP as it was similar to the G12H30, but sounded fuller and bigger. The Greenback was cool and the G12M-65 Creamback was OK, but I didn't think either of those was as clear as I like. I tried a few others, but they were unimpressive enough I don't remember the details.
I run my amps clean and get dirt with pedals, so your mileage may vary.

I've got the Universal Audio Ox Box. So, I've got a lot of different speakers and cabs to choose from. I've also messed with various Impulse Responses and real speakers. I've found that I'm a fan of Greenbacks. My Maz Jr combo came with a Greenback.
I can pop in Creambacks, Vintage 30's,etc, via the Ox, but I always end up back at the Greenbacks.
My advice is to trust your gut and ears on what you like. No reason not to try other things if the opportunity arises, but don't doubt yourself.
I will add that I do love my Ghia through my Tone Tubby 12". It just sings. I can't remember trying my Maz Jr through it, but I'm sure it would work. Trust your Ears!

The alnico cream works well with the amp (at least the v2 version). I ended up going back to the G12H. It has a bite and bottom that is really cool. The "bite" part, which can be kind of annoying, you can dial that out with the eq, but you can't get that same thing back with the alnico. I think it's up to what you want to hear.
Also, really digging my Z 1x12 with the regular creamback with the maz38 and EZG in particular. It also pairs well with maz18nr2. Haven't tried the v30 with it.

The Maz 18 sounds GREAT with Alnico speakers!
I use a Blue (in my 1x12 Z cab) about 95% of the time.
I also have a 2x12 Morgan cab with a Gold & G12H30.....This cabinet sounds super huge!
For a while, I had an Alnico Cream that I paired with my Gold.... I also played around the them all in the 1x12 cab.
The Gold was more scooped, the Cream was a little darker with more mids and lower-mids (which made it a little thicker/warmer). The Blue, seemed like a good mix of the two and which is why I stuck with the Blue. If I only had the Alnico Cream, I would be 100% happy with that as well.....It's a GREAT speaker! I used it in my Stingray for a couple years.

I have a regular WGS Reaper in mine and love it. I had the stock G12H30 and found the same as above; hump-scoop-icepick

What a great response on the Z forums, seems like a good forum. Yea I have an Ox I use at home as well for studio stuff, but I’m looking for a real 1x12 cab for live situations. In the OX I love the 2x12 Boutique 65 cab and my main speaker sim is the 1x12 JBL 125, so clear and good for cleans and drive. I like Greenback for drive. Telejas… I had a Morgan 1x12 that was the best cab I’ve heard with Creamback H75, so was thinking of trying that H75, it’s such a good balanced speaker, super articulate. adam, I definitely want a speaker with some bite so I really need to try the G12H30. gbowman, WGS makes some of the best speakers. I worked for WGS the first two years they were getting started and was very involved in the voicing of the Veteran, Alnico’s, ET65, mostly all of them. So if anyone has any WGS questions from now on, just let me know.

I used it in my Stingray for a couple years. Yes I only have one lose speaker, the Alnico Cream, but no 1x12 cab. I have a Bogner and Friedman 2x12’s and one 4x12 Friedman. I’m really debating on selling the 4x12, I’ll never gig it again even a mega outdoor gig. I like the sound on 2x12’s and 1x12’s with EL84 amps anyway. I could sell the Friedman 4x12 to fund a Z Best 2x12, the clips on YouTube sound good. If anyone has a Z 1x12 empty or cheap I’ll take it (can’t login the Buy Sell forum until 30 days). Anyone have a preference of 1x12 openback cabs? Either Mojotone, V-Boutique, Avatar, or other. Mojotone 1x12 look more solid than the Avatar, and VBoutique is a little expensive. Thanks for the help guys!

Hi, I've had a Maz 18NR head since 2012 and I've run several speakers: V30, 25 watt Greenback, Celestion heritage 20watt greenback, Jensen c12 (horrible), and for the past two years the celestion heritage G12-65 (the speaker Robben Ford uses, not the creamback version of the greenback). The g12-65 is more articulate and clear than a greenback, has tighter bass and mids, and slightly more controlled highs. It's also more percussive. Yet, at 97db efficiency it's not as crazy loud as the alnico speakers or the Vintage 30 (the Vintage 30 gave me ear fatigue and I got rid of it very quickly). I highly recommend the G12-65 (I know WGS makes a great version as well). Many forum members have used the g12-65 or the WGS variant for their Maz amps and preferred it.

I'd rank it right up there with the best of them and they look pretty sharp too. avatarspeakers.com/shop/guitar/g112-vintage-sp/

Thanks for checking the Sale ads.

Thanks for checking the Sale ads. Wise decision. Live with that speaker for long enough to really dial it in and there is a good chance you will find the Alnico Cream to be everything you need. You can go down that speaker search rabbit hole and spend a lot of money and not find anything that will be significantly better. The Cut control is very useful for taming or augmenting different speakers.

I’ve been playing with speakers…I have a 2x10 maz combo with the dr z speakers. Tried a Rola gray back g12m in a cab….whoa, where did the volume go? It was like 1/4 as loud. No cleans available. Sounded like a Marshall though, all mids. I have a Celestion blue Iam going to try next but I think the Z speakers are a perfect match, honestly. Kind of in between a Jensen and a celestion.
I also ran my 5e3 through the z speakers. Much louder than the Jensen alnico Iam using with that amp now.

I just got my Maz 18 and wanted to try my EVM-12L in it. Made a big difference over the stock G12H30. But that has always been my favorite speaker. so...
