So I have had my Tasmanian devil (wreck jr) now for a few days. It’s clearly smashes the dirt side of the equation with a Rocky Marciano right hook.
I am wrestling with trying to get a clean/dirty clean glossy shimmer tone that I know it has in it.
I feel like a moron even asking this as there isn’t a lot of knob choices, ha
if anyone has any input that would be epic >

Use your guitar volume to clean up the sound. It's a big part of the Wreck experience to go from clean to dirty with the guitar volume. Also a light touch can lead to really nice cleans. I have a Christmas tune recording thread hear and it's how I got the cleans I wanted from the amp.

Agree with the above post. You need to use your guitar volume.

Another option to experiment with. Turn up the master, …all the way. Then slowly bring up the volume until it breaks up to your liking. This lets the power section shine and at minimum changes the character of the break up tones. There is a nice sweet spot in between break up and chime. I do also agree with the guitar volume comments because of the touch response., if your on the edge of break up and play aggressively it overdrives the tone, play soft and it cleans up. The Wreck JR. behaves more like an instrument than just an amp. Good luck !!

I’d actually try the master at noonish (maybe a tad over) and then bring volume in to taste. That will limit the power amp section from clipping as well.
Another option is to use a compressor as an “underdrive”. Set compression threshold to optimize sustain and dynamics and back off the output of the pedal to hit the front end of the amp not as hard.

Agree with the above post. You need to use your guitar volume. Great input man, that was clearly the story to a T I think what had thrown me off was, i had just gotten settled into my new Z master. The ZM has redonkulous lush shimmery round cleans. Prob the best i have heard from a non old school fender amp. The wrecks cleans are a bit different then the Z masters. I have a 72 335 and a 67 335> They breath fire with the Wreck Jr> Of course the teles work, but i think if you have this amp and dont own a 335….. I almost feel sorry for you, ha So with both my Z’s , I wasn’t feeling them at first oddly enough. Now i find myself daydreaming about playing them, lol That Cleveland sound strikes again>
