I am looking to re-tube a couple older Dr Z's...and just read about EL844's...(from Tube Depot)..."less power, break up sooner, etc..." Has anyone tried a matched pair of these 844's in a Dr Z amp yet???
Thanks very much. (Monza/Z-28/Carmen Ghia/Maz 18 JrNR)
****UPDATE: Sorry, I searched on here and found a few good links. Sorry for beating the proverbial dead horse.

Doc did recommend them at least for the M12 model's "Steve Miller mod," a.k.a., the "low-powered StangRay." He talked about it here: ztalk.proboards.com/post/759894/threadBeyond that, though, I can't recall anybody using the EL844's. Possibly due to Doc's more recent designs that incorporate Master Volumes, perhaps the lower-output tubes aren't as necessary anymore(?).
