Coming into the homestretch with the Z 28 MKII. Due to many requests I'm looking into releasing it as a 1x12 combo as well as a head, more on that later. Hope to get it out to Adam soon for one of his excellent videos. Like most builders of any volume I'm working with Transformer supply shortages. I have been on the phone almost daily with Heyboer, and Schumacher. Z Looking forward to it. Although I have owned several Dr. Z amps, this is the first one that I plan on buying new! I had an original Z-28. I'm sure this will be excellent!!

Do I sell my Z-28 or do I just add the MKII to the collection? I know what my boss would say. She has this crazy idea that I should sell two to get one! Since I just got a Z-Wreck Jr I think the former will most likely happen.

I was waiting on this new version to come out but when the Doc posted he was no longer making combos I bought a used combo! I didn't want to take the chance of missing out on a Z-28 combo. A Z-28 combo with an effects loop and master volume would be the perfect amp for sure. I am not mad at all that he's considering making this in a combo. I do wish I would have waited though.

I think (hope and pray!) this is ok to share to the wonderful people here.
I had a prototype Z28 MK2 here for a little while and recorded this with it. I wouldn't judge it like "the amp sounds like this" though, more like that is one sound lurking within it. It kind of reminded me of playing my Martin acoustic, like just a big clean sound with a ton of detail. I guess that's what prompted me to play that tune. Recording is completely mono with no ambience or reverb at all, and done with an IR, but I think I think that speaks a little to the 3d character of the amp too.
A couple things stood out to me about the amp. #1, that hyper clean sound is at a level that would easily compete with a drummer whereas say the maz18 might be really pushing it to get that level of clean at that volume level. I thought that was really cool since they are sort of in the same tube output level (dual 6v6 compared to dual el84 type tubes) . #2, if you slam the input with a lowly tube screamer, holy crap, you've never heard a tube screamer sound like that. I wish I recorded that, but holy sh*t that was like the best fuzz sound you ever heard. I think Something to do with that ef86 and the potential power available there. I'd suggest other Z owners with ef86 input tubes give that one a go.
Maybe should add (actually, probably shouldn't!), but Z has another amp creation in the can ready to go should he choose to pull the trigger on it. He sounds pretty excited about that one, but I think all of this stuff really relates to how it relates to the business aspect of the company at whatever point in time. We all know they have as much demand right now as they can really handle, so those are really important business decisions to factor. I've said it many times, but we are just blessed as guitarists that this company exists. I can't state that enough.

Nice Adam thanks for posting. The detail and harmonics are outstanding. The Z 28 is surely and amp that you PLAY, it is an instrument on its own.

I look forward to whenever it might come out! With this having 4 knobs on it now do we have the "3-3-3-3" instead of the "3-3-3" now? Ha!

Z-28 is definitely the amp I'm looking to pick up next... not sure if I should be holding out for a Mk2 or not. Great job on capturing that tone. So many videos don't do a good enough job of translating a stellar guitar/amp set to a well-recorded, musical sound. Think I'll listen again...

Having just bought the Z-Plus (which I absolutely love), I really am tempted to get the new Z-28 when it comes out. I bought a Z-28 from Humbucker, and it was my main amp for ten years or so until I made the mistake of selling it. It really was a magical sound, and I still miss it.

Wow Adam and good Dr. Z It sounds amazing - no wonder that you got promptly inspired. Thank you so much for playing and sharing ( adam) and for creating such a sound maker ( DRZ) I am really hoping it will be great market success once released

In Frankie’s sneak peak post of the Z-28, I mentioned how muscular it sounded and had nice grind. Adam your video shows the sweet articulate side of the amp. If I were describing the Z-28 mkii As if it were a person, I would say it has depth of character. (but then don’t most Z’s). Thanks for posting that, and thanks Doc for yet another great amp.

Definitely want to get my hands on a MKII to compare to my Z28s. It really is my favorite amp to use.

Once again this week, I was looking at other amps. Maybe a Fuchs ODS30?, Maybe a Modded Blues Junior?, maybe I grab a used Budda V40? Then I go plug in my Z28, throw a little reverb on, couple clicks on the Brake Lite, and maybe a touch, just a touch of my Vanilla Zendrive, then just play. I'm a fan of 6v6's, i'm also a fan of "Dumble" style amps and I never hear the Z28 remotely mentioned in that vain. But when I step on that Vanilla Zendrive, I can tell you the amp does not drastically change. It still sounds like a Z28, the pedal can be set up just to lift, maybe at little gain, but it really feels like part of that amp. If i'm running my SG Standard, Telecaster, or my Junior into it, it still sounds great, the guitars ring through and its never a fight with this amp ever.
I'm a fanboy, I know it.
