I've been looking for the "right" Firebird ever since I played Dave's Firebird at Z-Fest. I thought I had one to go play down in New Orleans, but the fellow sold it before I could get down there. I really don't want to blindly buy one. I want to play one to make sure. Oh well. At least I'll get to play Dave's some in August at mini Z-Fest! lol
I'm looking for a 120th Anniversary 2014 Firebird. The closest one is way down in Southeastern Florida. I don't want a new one because the tuners are not correct.
Please keep a look out for me.

I love the Steinberger gearless tuners on my Firebird. Some Firebirds come with the Gibson 'mini' tuners, and my Explorer has those. I don't care for them because the tuning keys are so close together and small. Makes it clumsy for my big hands...and to me they don't look right on the Firebird. Good luck in your quest, Russell. I'll have a fresh set of strings on my Bird for ya when you get here!

They are hard to find within driving distance to try them out.

I always wanted a black Firebird custom. They look so cool.

Mine has the mini grovers and I concur they are hard to deal with. I looked into putting the "correct" tuners on it and they were going to cost almost as much as the whole guitar cost so I bailed on that idea for the time being.

One thing I love about my Firebird is how well it holds tuning. The strings are in a straight line from the tailpiece to the tuner, and I polish the nut on all my guitars too. It makes for a nice session! There's something about the Bird's pickups too. They're not exactly mini humbuckers, no pole piece screws, and I just love the way they sound. Love my Firebird.

I love Firebirds. Real firebirds, not the non-reverse set neck ones with P-90s like my first one. They don't count. My real one was a 2005 reissue with the banjo tuners. I think they sound great when played in a band with 2 guitars because they sound so different than the usual Les Paul or Tele or whatever. I'm not as big a fan when you are the only guitarist. That was normally where I worked so I let mine go.
