I'm typically not much of a pedal guy, although I have a closet full of overdrive and distortion boxes lol! I have been using a J Rockett Dude through a little tube amp just around the house and really like it for low volume jamming. What else out there is similar that I could try? I believe the Dude is a Dumble type overdrive but I think it's more of an overdrive rather than an AIAB type pedal. I'm no expert on that, I just like the way it sounds.
What else should I look at?

That's funny, I had a Dude pedal and kind of liked it, but thought it WAS an "amp in a box" (AIAB) type pedal. But we all hear & feel things differently sometimes, too. I now have a J Rockett Animal, which I think shares some family traits, if you will.
I think the Zendrive is a good suggestion for you (it's also a D-type pedal, but different enough to be its own thing) or even *gasp* dare I suggest trying a Fulltone OCD--it does what it's supposed to do very well, too (and it's not a D clone), but is similar in its level of gain range and feel.
Edit: Also.. I totally forgot to mention (since I'm a Barber overdrive fan-boy) that an older Small Fry or a newer B.U.S.S. would be awesome for mid/high gain kind of stuff. Or heck, the Direct Drive is fabulous for practically anything.

I have both the Gladio (dual D-style sounds) and the Gladio SC (Robben Ford D-style side from the big Gladio). I really like these pedals, but they are expensive. The dual one is on my gig board.
No experience with the others suggested.

Mad Professor Simble, although it's been discontinued. They have a new version out now.

I was going to order one last week (my dealer got a shipment in). The price seems to be gone up $40 US. The pedal is US$409 now

I do remember liking the DD.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Barber Gain Changer. It has a toggle for low and med/high gain and a toggle for 3 EQ profiles. Swiss army knife and sounds great.

Keith, let's compare notes on the Gladio once you've had some time with it.
I do like the feature that allows you to choose whether to stack the channels or toggle between them.

I have a Tanabe Dumkudo Twin. Larry Carlton used to use one on his fly-rig for times when it was not practical to transport his Dumble. That says a lot considering all the other Dumble-style pedals that were available then. That Pedal Show did a review of one a while back. They reviewed the Dude in the same show. That was what got me interested in it. I've never played a Dumble but I like it a lot for a bluesy tone with my Tele. It is not at all like a typical dirt box. More subtle. Maybe that IS the Dumble thing. It was pricey new but I see used ones going for more.

Or heck, the Direct Drive is fabulous for practically anything. Glad you mentioned that. I found two Direct Drives in my closet that I sorta forgot about. A newer green one with toggles and a big box black one that I don't remember much about. Must be an older version. They both sound really nice. It's making me rethink the Dumble type pedals. I think these are more up my alley. Maybe I'll search around for a few British type pedals to explore as well.

I would suggest that you guys try Barber.
I’ve been using Dave Barber’s stuff for years.

I ordered one yesterday. The demos all sound great. Like Doctorice said the switching seems well thought out. Definitely on the expensive side, but I just tell myself it's two pedals and the price doesn't seem so bad.

Many of the demos I've seen don't explore using the guitar's controls much. In my experience, the pedal responds well to changes in what's coming into it.

I have a bunch of Dumble-type pedals and several Barbers, including the Burn Unit EQ. For the Dumble sound, I like the Dumkudo Twin. Although, my main pedal is a Barber Dual Discrete, with two Direct Drive Super Sports and switching to allow toggling, not stacking them.

That sounds fun. Good to know about the GV interaction!

The BurnUnit mode was good. I think the Dude was what bumped it. Can't remember for sure.

I also use the Barber Burn Unit EQ on my smaller board (which has 2 other dual function pedals on it, the Analogman BiChorus and the Keeley Caverns). The Burn Unit EQ has a lot of range between the two functions.

The Barber stuff is excellent. I have a very old -- maybe original release -- Direct Drive and a Gain Changer.

I will also add my kudos on the Barber pedals. I too think I have an original Direct Drive. I think it resides on a large board with a Small Fry and a Launch Pad. That board hasn’t seen the light of day since we moved in July of ‘18. Guess I should pull it out one of these days.

Except for trying it briefly to see if it worked, I haven’t used any of the new pedals I bought since this past Spring/Summer. Now that renovations are winding down, and Winter is upon us, I have several new pedals to try out ! I just bought a Longamp Roaxanne flanger last week, too (see my avatar pic). I need to try that one, too!
