I’ve had a 2x12 avatar cab for almost 14 years now. Currently houses a blue and g12h30 and has for probably the last 9 years. It’s been a great cab but I’m toying with going all in on alnico. I’ve been able to A/B all the Celestion offerings at various points but never mix them. I do like mixing speakers in cabs generally. Does anyone have experience with either of these scenarios? Or better yet compared two of these scenarios?
Blue + Cream Blue + Gold Blue + Blue (or some other brand)
I lean toward the cream because I love the smooth warmth it has with my RXJR. Just worry it may be too mid heavy, and not have that high/low bandwidth that I like about the g12h. Gold would probably cop that better. I’ve tried a red fang. Didn’t care for it. Also have a Jupiter 12LA. Too American though.

I have a couple perspectives. I used to own a MAZ Senior 2x12 that had two blues in it. It was an incredible combination. That was a great sounding amp. Also, the blue and the gold together is the staple for the Z Wreck and it sounds great, but overkill for low wattage amps. With the RXJR, try two blues. My 2 cents.

The Z Wreck 2x12 cab came loaded with a blue and a gold - sounds great! The DB4 combo came with 2 blues - sounds great! With the RX Jr. I think I'd go with B/G combo. BTW - I have an RX ES combo that used to belong to Tracii Guns - it's loaded with a Gold.

Tracii had five RX ES combos that he added a 1x12 gold cab to give him 5 mini-stacks. He replaced those with Remedies! I knew they were for sale somewhere and I found one. The only give away to it was that the serial number started with "TG". 😁 Here's the pic at Doc's shop

For low wattage, what about a blue with a ruby?

When I saw the Z-Wreck came with a Blue and a Gold I thought that was interesting and had to try it, although I did not own that particular amp. The speakers I had were in separate 1x12 cabs so I don't know how much difference that made. I was using a MAZ 18 at the time. Sounded great but frankly I liked two Blues together better.

For low wattage, what about a blue with a ruby? Not a bad idea. Although I’ve never enjoyed the Ruby sound samples that I’ve heard. Too dark. The cream is warm with out being dark and does fine with lower wattage so I’d pair that over a ruby I think.

I used the Blue\Gold in a 2x12 for a year or so with a Ray head. After trying the Blue in combination with a number of other speakers and by itself, I decided that I just wasn't a fan of the Blue and eventually moved it on. It was a long time ago but I think the combination I liked best with the blue was a 50 watt ceramic Silver Bell. Maybe the alnico SB could be an option to look into if you can find a good deal on a used one. Speakers are such a personal taste kind of thing.

I use the Cream in My Maz 38 and my Z Plus, and I match with a Ruby.
I think it sounds great!

No experience with an alnico cream. But a blue with another blue or a gold....will be fine. I would think which ever you could find used and cheap would be my choice.

Reviving this thread. Anyone have experience with the Weber Silver Bell AlNiCo? I have so many good ceramic speaker in my various cabs. My current 2x12 avatar open back has a blue/g12h mix. Want to go all alnico. Maybe something a TAD warmer.
Celestion Cream is my first choice. Major other contenders are Weber Silver bell or the avatar Alnico. Would love something a little fuller with good bottom end and warm top to compliment blue. Again, I think the Cream probably nails that but open to other options. Never owned or played through the weber or avatar.

For low wattage, what about a blue with a ruby? I wouldn’t think the Ruby would be a good choice to pair with a Blue. If you did, you’d have to wire them in series with a Ruby getting hit first.

Interesting. Can you tell why the order of speakers is important? I'm a tad flummoxed and ready to learn. Thanks!

I think the cream stands by itself really well too.

I compared it with a gold here and by turing the T up about 2 clicks on the Ruby they sounded nearly identical, with Ruby being a bit fatter at the expense of just a tiny bit of clarity. Its fantastic in my Nova! But for 212 Id go w/ 2 blue, blue/gold or if you need a little more lows (about like the H30 but with a pleasant touch of ALNICO sponginess) the Avatar A50 is a geat, great speaker. There is also an A25 but Ive not tried it.

IMHO, an Alnico mixed with a Ceramic is the nest of both worlds. blue/Greenback, Gold/G12H30, my personal favorite was the Red Fang/Eminence CV-65.

Well, two years later, and I finally pulled the trigger. Got a Cream Alnico and have paired it with the Blue. As my speaker and cab collection has grown, I was curious to have an all Alnico cab. They pair wonderfully I think. The cream to me is more like a high power blue than the gold. It’s got a familial midrange to the blue but fuller and tighter lows and slightly warmer top. Just what you’d expect with a higher power rating. Together they make a really great full spectrum 2x12 alnico pallet. Good news is I now have a GB/G12H sitting on the sideline to make a 2x12 matchless cab with some day. Or I could do a Cream/G12H + Blue/GB combination. I love having options

From an engineering perspective, I don't understand why one speaker would need to be ordered first. A amplifier puts out an AC (alternating current) signal and that signal is changing polarity hundreds to thousands of times per second. The speaker being "hit" first electrically changes every time as well; therefore polarity should be a non issue.
Geek alert!!!
Sometimes early in the morning (been up since 2:30) I get coffee'd up and find myself down in the weeds. If you wanna follow me, check out Kirchoff's Law here...I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me understand better why the order of two equal impedances would matter here.
Have a Blessed Day, brothers!

I think this would only be of any practical value if the speakers are wired in SERIES. In parallel, they'd punch together and share the load evenly. In series, theoretically the higher wattage speaker gets hit "first", so its touted to be "safer" and less likelihood of blowing your prized 15W blue speaker. I have no scientific data to prove this, but Doc seems to prefer this and has talked about it in an old AMA video. The subject was the Z Wreck cab. He wires the 50W Gold first in series for reasons listed above. This is irrelevant in my setup as my 16 ohms speakers are wired in parallel for 8 ohms.

It doesn’t matter if they’re in parallel. But yes in series it does affect things, and he had a fairly understandable explanation, I just don’t remember it. Haha. I’ll see if I can find it. Found it. Here’s a link.

Other than JBL Alnicos, WGS and ToneTubby have great offerings. Turns out, I don’t much like the Celestion mid heavy stuff.
