A CAZ-45 arrived at my door yesterday. Didn't take long to decide it was a keeper, although the learning curve is far from over.
I have a couple of 2061cx cabs here - one with two Scumback H75s (65w each) and the other with a Creamback and Vintage 30.
Which just happens to be the Doctor's choice of speaker mix for the CAZ.
(The 2061cx is closed back, slanted, diagonal speaker arrangement.)
I wouldn't mind picking up the Z Best, although my first searches didn't produce any with that speaker pair. But I'm really wondering if the Z Best has a clear advantage over the 2061cx ?
Anyone have any comparison experience with the Z Best and 2061cx? Clubs or concert hall layouts where one works better than another?

Some people are less picky than I am, but I find most amps sound better with a cabinet that is from the same manufacturer. If you sprung for a CAZ, I'd start by matching it up with the cabinet and speakers it was designed with. If that doessn't do it for you, you can go from there.

I'm going to take a guess your cabs are more than fine, but there's one of these in stock. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CAZZBest212--dr-z-caz-45-z-best-2-by-12-inch-cabinetFWIW, I just got done putting my alnico cream back in a spawn 2x12 (paired with v30), played it with the CAZ, and I think it sounds great. I had moved that alnico cream speaker around a lot and for a short bit it was in that 2x12 with caz and thought it sounded pretty much perfect. Guessing it doesn't sound much different than the regular cream. After monkeying around, it wound up back there and I tested it to see if what I heard before is what I hear today and it sounded perfect to me, and it was in a different room so that's a good sign too. Congrats on the amp!

Thanks, both of you. I'll call my SW rep in the morning. I better sell some stuff or I'm not going to have any room for this new cabinet.

I'll put a plug in for the Zbest too. I have not heard an amp sound bad through one. It's tight and full and with the port it give you some openess that you get from an open back cab.

I cannot answer your question, but am very interested in your findings. I have a 2061cx with the G12H30 anniversary's. I've been very tempted to swap at least on of the speakers for something more in the vein of a greenback. While I have always dug the cab, it's always seemed a bit mid scooped to me. And my Soldano 412 with v30's, just fit the CAZ45 so much better. So I think something with more mids like a greenback would be cool.
That said about the only thing I've read (and again not experienced in person, so take with some salt) is that the Z-best really throws sound a good ways, and sounds best further away than closer. And I just don't need a cab like that right now. Hence why I've considered modding the 2061cx I have instead of buying the Z-best.
And to go back the other way a bit, I've tried, sold, and still own a fair selection of speaker cabs. The cabs itself can make as much or more difference than just swapping speakers. So just because a cab has the same speakers, definitely doesn't mean it will sound that much like a different designed cab with the same speakers. Which is too why I haven't swapped out a speaker in my 2061cx. The H30's may be the best fit for that cab.
But I sure wouldn't mind trying out yours that has the scumbacks. haha.

I love Scumback H75s in the 2061cx. That's what I've got in the 2nd 2061cx I own. I guess it matters what amp you're using, too (duh ).

Either speaker combo standing out as a better match?

I've had to put this on hold for a little bit. Upcoming gigs and I know better than to use an amp I don't yet know very well. I'm using an SRZ with an open-back Mather 1x12, loaded with a Scumback H75 @ 65w.
