the drummer was very good. i believe he did a stint with Luther Allison's band back in the day. the bassist was steeped in the blues and the other guitarist was probably the most promising and talented guitarist i've played with. alas, the bassist is now a professional carpenter, the guitarist teaches gtr at a local music store and the drummer is a motivational speaker. lol as far as i know, i'm the only one still in a band.

same band in June 2001 with a pick up bassist and drummer. in fact, that weekend, we played 3 gigs with 3 different drummers and 2 different bassists.

Man, what a drummer. Bassman too. So nice to have that kind of foundation when playing blues. It's something that is hard to learn. You almost have to grow up with it. I found it curious how some of those British cats picked up on it so well in the '60s.

Back about this same period I was active in the blues scene here in KC. I played for the top blues singer and band leader for about 2 years. There was a core of players that floated in and out of area blues bands. We too used several different players in the rhythm section depending on who was available at the time and hired keys and horns when the money was right. I'm glad the leader/singer handled hiring and scheduling them. It would have driven me nuts. I'd show up for a gig and never know who else was going to be in the band. They were ALL more than competent but naturally you would prefer working with a select few. We NEVER rehearsed. The leader would just call out a song and key and then count it off. We were all experienced pros and somehow it worked.

Unvaccinated and otherwise healthy, he spent 5 weeks intubated in the hospital before succumbing to the virus.
Not sure how old he was but he was right about 60. How sad. he was a super good drummer and the kindest, warm-hearted guy.

So sad to hear of people passing when they probably could have bee vaccinated and lived. Worse, to me, to have spent the end of your life in the hospital, likely sedated to unconsciousness and racking up a large bill to leave to the family after you pass away. Seems so sad and unnecessary. ME

Great playing and tone! Sometimes you can tell right past what you think are the inadequacy of a given recording.
