I just purchased a brown box because we run crazy high voltage around these parts. I understand that the brown box is really great for older amps, but I have to think running my Wreck Jr at the right voltage can also help.
So, what voltage do you run your Z at?

Line voltage is pretty constant here, about 120V. Varies between 117V and 124. I don't notice that much difference with my MAZ 8. I have a step down transformer but I have no use for it currently with my amps. The oldest amp I own is a Silvertone from about 1965 and even it is placarded "117vac". I think you have to get back into the tweed era before a reduction is necessary.
How high is your voltage? There is a high/low limit the utility is required maintain. The high limit in the US is 126v I believe. If you are above that you should contact your utility and have it adjusted.

I wouldn't worry about running Z amps at regular line voltage. Here in Michigan I've been monitoring line voltage since the early 90's and it's pretty consistent at 123-124 VAC. The Z shop in Cleveland is only a couple hundred miles from me and it's likely about the same.
I built a 'brown box' about 20 years ago and it's just a 3 amp 12 volt transformer that I connected as a "Buck" transformer. It's got a 6 volt tap so I get about 117 and 110 out of it. I only use it for my 1960 Tweed Princeton.
