hi all. the reverb stopped working on my maz 18 combo this morning. could anyone tell me which tube is the reverb tube so i can swap it out and try a new one? thank you, Dave. OK Dave : V3 = 12AT7 it is the reverb driver and summer V4 = 12AX7 it is the reverb recovery To test the reverb first turn off amp and remove the tank from the combo. Just remove the screws holding the bag to the cab. Slide the tub out of the bag and inspect. Are the RCA cables connected firmly on the tub and on the chassis ? Look inside the tub and check the thin wires that connect to the RCA jacks, they are kind of fragile and can brake off the jack and cause loss of reverb, this is the most common failure. If all are good and the cabling is stout turn on the amp , turn up the reverb and give the tub a good shake. You should hear the thunder of the tub, if so V4 is good and maybe V3 is the culprit. Give that a try and let me know. DR.Z

Loose connection? You mean the RCA plug not making good contact? You can bend those little tabs inward a little so the plug grips the socket better. Doesn't take much. Also those plugs and sockets can get corroded and need cleaning. That might be perceived as a loose connection. Whatever it really is just moving wires would be a band-aid. There is one other possibility I have seen over the years in reverb tanks. The thin wires inside the tank going to the transducers can break from constant vibration but yet still be touching at the break and making contact intermittently. Just barely moving the tank can cause the wires to move. Also I have actually seen where the wire broke INSDIDE the insulation so that the break was not visible. These were mostly on old Fender amps but the tanks are essentially the same as what Z uses.
