I know this has been discussed on this forum, but overdrives and times change. In my limited exposure to the Lux, I've learned that the Wampler Tumnus is not good to my ears, but a Tube Screamer is. I need to dig out my old FDII and try that too since it's a flatter TS. I'll pull out one of my Flying Dragons while I'm at it.
I loved Joe Walsh's tone on the Conan O'Brien. I looks like he taps on a mini TS before he starts playing.
Let me know what's working for you. Thanks.

I've been using a Timmy (both a "real" one and the MXR version) with good results. It's not high gain. It's more like what the amp would do if I could turn V higher. I usually have my mid knob at about 2pm, so I don't need the mid-hump of a TS style pedal.

I’ve not heard of that before. I’ll look into it.

I like mid hump (hehe) overdrives with the Lux. Current rotation Boiling point, Model G, Light Speed and BB preamp.

I pulled out all of the ODs that I own and I've not been able to beat my Tube Screamer yet. My Fulltone 2 gets close, but not quite. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, but not as good as the TS. I've looked at BB preamps for a long time. I think it's time to get one.

Russell, consider a Nordland ODR-C. It's a re-worked and improved version of the Nobels ODR-1, by the original designer/creator. Unlike the original, the update has a mid control and a low cut, so you can tone sculpt to move into the classic TS eq zone.
Have to admit, I haven't tried it with the Z-Lux yet, but it sounds great with the Cure and Jetta.
Downside: it's expensive and there may be a wait list. (There wasn't when I ordered, and it only took a week to get it from Germany.)

I've had really good luck with a Plimsoul, and the Bogner LaGrange. The Tube Screamers sound great with it too, no doubt.

I've been getting great sounds with a Barber electronics direct drive dual channel, there's really nothing you can't do with this pedal.

After running though all of my overdrive pedals, although I don't have very many, the only other one that sounded good was my old Barber LTE. I may look into a Barber Gain Changer.
I did order a JHS Double Barrow. From all of the demos I've watched, it may get that somewhat biting sound I'm looking for on some of the modern blues we may play. I also ordered a Boss Harmony pedal. Since I'm the only one who will play lead in this new band, I need to do some harmony from time to time. Think "Can't get Enough" by Bad Company. Last, but not least, I decided to get another wah. I went with the Xotic wah because of the reviews and smaller footprint.
I'll build the pedalboard over the weekend and write it up in the effects section.

Barber Direct Drive Super Sport works great with every amp I own and was the best match for the Z-Lux, when I had one.

I recently picked up a Tumnus deluxe that I’m enjoying with my HB guitars.
