That's what I've been doing this afternoon. I've had my CAZ since Doc unleashed them, Serial Number 001. And I've been loving it. I thought I had settled on a cab for it, a closed back Avatar with a couple of nice Greenbacks in it. Sounded great, and I thought I was getting everything I could out of it.
Then yesterday PCNS Todd and Josh came by and we spent the whole afternoon goofing with guitars, pickups, amps, cabs...it was glorious. At one point I decided I wanted to see if I could get my CAZ to sound like his EMS. Long story short, we got really, really close. And we were doing it through Todd's Z-Best cab. Sounded great, and it had a presence, an openness that I was missing with my cab loaded with Greenbacks. So after they left I got out my 30th Anni. Mazerati amp...the cab that came with it is a 2x12 that happens to be loaded with the same speakers as the Z-Best: A Vintage 30 and a G12H30. But it's open back. It sounded cool but didn't have what the Z-Best had going on, that muscular lower end. I had tried it when the amp was brand new and had dismissed it.
Today after church I went and got a piece of 1/2" birch plywood and cut a new solid back for the cab. I tolexed it up and put it on, which brings me to the title of this thread...For the last hour I've been playing my CAZ with the 2x12 now closed back Mazerati cab. I've been strumming open cowboy chords and listening to the most glorious overtones and chimey goodness, it's just incredible sounding. The harmonics are so huge, it's been blowing my mind. Strum a chord, listen, smile, repeat! This rig with my Duesenberg guitar is the best sounding guitar / amp combination I've ever played through and it is flat out inspiring.
I had to share my revelation with you all, man this amp is great. I knew it was special but I didn't have the perfect speaker combination for it. Now I do and it's so cool when things finally come together. I'm gonna be playing till my fingers bleed tonight!

Isn't it glorious when you find "THE" amp! Happiness is...
Congrats!
