Amazing #1= Out of the box this little gem fit everything I had been looking for! It tamed my snarly Tele ice prick bridge and gave a warm middle position clean without any tone stack changes. Everybody is looking for that amp, I found mine. Thank you Good Dr.
Amazing #2= Before I received my Cure (Best name ever as I am in a battle with stage 3 cancer) I read many of the aficionado posts on changing pre-amp tubes, power amp tubes, rectifier tubes, speakers, handles, tolex, foot pad screws, cabinet wood etc..... Nobody mentioned changing the Factory Fuse. Good idea, bad idea?
C'mon guys, if you're rebuilding an amp you paid over a thousand bucks on, maybe you should have bought a Line 6 Spider, does everything for a hundred bucks on CL, Jus' sayin.' Love mine the way it was designed and built. The factory fuse stays.
47 years picking' and still going. kelsocaster

Welcome to the Forum - a lot of good information and great people here! No reason to change the factory fuse that I can see but I'm sure someone will claim to hear a difference! 😂 If you like the Cure you also can try the Antidote and the Prescriptions (all the versions).

I'm pretty quick to modify things and tailor them to my liking- I think the only original things left on my Strat are the jack plate, neck plate and some of the screws. I've repaired, modifed and even built amps. That gives me a better appreciation of my Zs. I bought my Zs based on the idea of not wanting to or having to modify them- to enjoy what Z has done.
I'm just a kid- I've only been playing for 42 years- though I started 49 years ago!

When I bought my Z Wreck Jr, I thought my Cure's days were numbered, but there are days when I prefer the Cure over the Z Wreck Jr! Different colors on my palette!

The Cure is a great amp. I had mine at rehearsal last night. It is a staple among my rigs.

I sincerely wish you the best with your battle. Life is so short and so precious. Cancer and covid should be the new C word. On to the amp and mods... I'm with you. These guys know what they are doing, have fantastic ears, and just flat don't release an amp that doesn't sound great and went through the ringer with trying to make it sound as good as they can. The only thing I can see as an aversion to that is where economics really come into play. For instance, I love my maz with the stock g12h speaker, but I really love it with an alnico cream. But then there's has to be some kind of balance of if they add another $200+ to the base price of the amp, does it then throw it into a price bracket that just throws people off. But yes, totally agree with you on the minutia stuff. 44 years... that's how long I've been playing. Time sure flies. Welcome and cheers!

OK guys tell me about the cure... what does it sound like, or what could I relate it to? And thanks. Adam, perhaps it would be like a 60’s blackface non-reverb deluxe with more gain. That’s the simple answer for me.

OK guys tell me about the cure... what does it sound like, or what could I relate it to? And thanks. Adam, perhaps it would be like a 60’s blackface non-reverb deluxe with more gain. That’s the simple answer for me. First off, I beat stage II throat cancer 15 years ago. Attitude is everything, and you're in my prayers. You can beat this thing! Then about the amp; I like that description. I'd add that it's got some Marshall grind at higher gain levels, it can get good 'n nasty. Plus it's really lightweight, compact, and sounds WAY bigger than it's footprint would suggest. It's also got more than one good voice. The ability to control gain in the early stage plus in the Phase Inverter gives a lot of flexibility in gain structure; then there's the stellar Level control. It's the best Master Volume control ever. Really transparent, it doesn't change tone when you turn the amp down. It's got good voicing from clean thru edge of breakup to good classic rock punch.
I use it for my jazz Big Band or rock too. Looking at it doesn't pay it justice, ya gotta plug in. It made a believer out of Josh today!

Gentelmen, THANK YOU for your kind support! I took my Cure to an empty sanctuary yesterday, plugged in my Tele and had a wonderful time just playing alone and marveling at the bold and beautiful broadcast from this 15 watt wonder. I preset my HX FX with minimal effects for the different sounds I use with our worship band the night before and never had to touch the tone stack. The level knob however is us undeniably the end all and be all of the tons of tube amps I've ever owned. I used the included foot switch for boost times when it was "my turn" then switched back to my place in the mix during the service Sunday. Wow. The Cure is my monitor, mic'ed through a powerful digital PA. What a great day! Thanks again to the good DR. for Curing my needs. Great job, great amp, right out of the box!
Again, no mods needed, Original fuse stays...jus' sayin... kelsocaster

I just played a blues jam with some friends (singer, harmonica, bass and drums) and used my Cure, a Strat and a Strymon Flint. It was super portable and sounded awesome!

Enjoyed your reply.
Same boat. My old Tele and main player, I believe has the original '73 body. Everything else came from who knows where, love it tho. Again 47 years later I've owned several Z's, life adds and takes away. Before my current battle I lugged around 100 lb amps gig to gig. Always hunting' for great tone from 110 watts of tube. 30 lb 15 watt Cure (name says it all) fixed that tone chase. Happy now. Listen to your Dr. He knows best. Pick on Don A we're still above ground. That counts. kelsocaster

Hello Kelso,
Welcome to the forum. It's an excellent place to find information, get help and just plain hang out. Glad you found the Dr. Z Cure. It's definitely an excellent amp. I love mine. Now I'm one of those people that like to experiment with NOS tubes and speaker swaps. However, I'm a tinkerer. I love experimenting with tones and it's part of the enjoyment for me. Also love pedals and experimenting with tones there as well. I do consider swapping out the fuse a bit overkill though. A fuse is really just a fuse. Although you do want to keep some extras on hand in case the fuse blows. May never need it, but the moment that you don't have one, that's when it will blow on you. There cheap too. So, it doesn't cost much.
Don't really consider the tube and speaker swaps as "rebuilding" the amp. More "redecorating". LOL. Kind of like you would do in a house with paint and furniture and such. That being said, it's an excellent amp as is, with the standard compliment of tubes and speaker. So if you enjoy that, that's totally awesome!! Hope you stick around and if you ever have any questions feel free to ask. There's plenty of knowledge and help on here.
Also, good luck with fighting the cancer. My mom has been dealing with cancer. So definitely know about that. She has been going through immunotherapy and that seems to have helped greatly in fighting the cancer. Hopefully your docs will find something that works for you and helps to shrink and/or get rid of the cancer!

Prayers sent to you guys who are dealing with cancer.
Welcome to the forum kelsocaster!
My Cure has been my #1 gig amp since I bought it. All I've done to it is replace the tubes to NOS (no tube "substitutions" though) and lightened an already lightweight package by swapping out the speaker for the Emi Lil Texas Neo.
