I just bought a Fender Engager boost pedal and it has knocked my long-serving Xotic RC off my board. Nothing wrong with the RC. The Gain control on it allows you to add a little "hair" but I never used that. I always just used it at the end of my chain for a clean boost and a little EQ tweak. The Engager has it beat for that. It has a 3-band EQ and what I find really useful is the Mid control is switchable from 400Hz to 800Hz. I can see this replacing a Boss GE-7 also. There is enough control with the Engager that I think I could duplicate any setting I would use on the GE-7s 7-band graphic and the rotary controls are not as sensitive as the sliders. And this is a big deal, IT IS MUCH QUIETER than the GE-7. This is my only experience with the new Fender pedals. I'm probably not interested any of the others as I try to stay away from Chinese stuff but this one is a keeper. I might buy another before Fender decides to discontinue them, which they tend to do.

Good to hear. I've got a Fender Pugilist Distortion pedal that's been great for me. I never liked Fender pedals much but that one is cool, and the Engager sounds like it's nice. I like the switchable mid control, and the noise factor is really important. It's the reason I never gigged with my Boss GE-7, the thing was so noisy.

I don't want to derail the thread, but the GE7 has to be modded to be useable IMO. I highly recommend the XTS mods....they reduce the noise floor and recalibrate the sliders to sit more in the voice of the guitar.

I like the idea of the EQ. Sometimes, the mids need to be boosted. I use a Tumnus to do that. This may be a good alternative.

I could have had it done by Analogman for $50 plus shipping or I thought about doing it myself. I would still be left with the short travel of the sliders which makes them overly sensitive to me. The rotary controls on the Engager are more user friendly.

I bought a mod kit for my GE-7 but don’t see ever doing it myself. I hate working at that tiny scale. I’ll be sending mine into Mike some day.

They do a real nice job and you can talk directly to the owners if you need to. I bought a MIJ GE7 from our brother Jason Cornelius and sent it to them. Anyway, back to the original topic, I'm glad to hear about the Fender pedal. BTW...I just got the new Vertex Boost MkII today. It doesn't have any tone shaping though. I'm about to go hook it up and see how it sounds.

I was very interested in that one also. Very neat that it can be controlled with an expression pedal. Great idea. I'd be interested to hear your view.
