Hi Gang,
It's been a very long time since I've changed the tubes in my CG... note I put on the back says 12/2010... lol. Well, it got a lot of use between 2010 - 2012, but not much from 2012 to about this year when I started playing again after hiatus.
Been running the amp in a walk-in closet (fairly good sized) for some recording and now I'm getting crackle and fizz on certain chords... I'm hoping it's just tubes... Luckily I got some spares until new ones arrive.
Likewise my MAZSR had a tube go out few months back. Same scenario, lot of use many years ago, not so much. Wonder if they just get brittle over time?
Anything else I should check?

Ok, I think I found the culprit... the 5751 in the PI position is kaput... doesn't get hot, and doesn't light up. It's the original 5751 that shipped in the amp in 2006 when I purchased it.
So, as luck would have it, I have plenty of 12ax7's and ECC801s's... but no 5751's. Do I need a 5751 in the PI position or can I get away with a 12ax7?

Ok, I was wrong on all fronts... I remember Myles saying years ago, light is not indicative of a tube working or not... P1 12ax7 (JJ) I had in was bad, replaced with a Siemens ECC801s... sounds awesome! I'll run with that for a while and check back... Thanke!
