How well does Z Master handle low volume playing in rehearsals or small rooms, bars? For example Z Lux works fine playing easy & low volumes. I know there are less effective amps for that but I'm interested in the character Z Master's got according to the info & reviews. How does it take the modulation pedals?

I don't have one, but I would imagine it would sound just beautiful. The vital personality traits of a great amp always come through and at times they are even appreciated more at moderate volumes. You can be assured there is magic in that amp that will make you an owner for life even if its the only one you own. Pure electric guitar!

A trick I used to use with a Fender Super Reverb (4-10" speakers) was to disconnect one of them for playing at lower volumes. The 8 ohm speakers were in parallel so they were 2 ohms total to match the output transformer. Running just 3 made it 2.7 ohms which is certainly close enough to not damage the output transformer and what it allowed was running the speakers closer to their sweet spot when the amp is turned down a bit. I have done the same thing with a 4x10 Bassman and also a Vibro-King.
OK, I know that the Z-Master has an intentional impedance mismatch (2.7 ohm speaker load and 4 ohm transformer I think) but here we are just trying to make a compromise to make it sound better.

At low volumes it just has this early 70’s Keef thing that’s a little angry. If I want some grit a low volumes, I pedal it up ever so slightly as I like my chick without much makeup Just a call arse amp

When I had my ZM, I ran it at all kinds of volume levels and it sounded great. The 3-10's are the real star of the show IMO.
I ran my modulation pedals into it and they worked great. I think I tried (at various times) a Lex, Ibanez Chorus, Flanger, etc.

I've run mine at low volume with just a hint of delay and it sounds wonderful!
