I love both my 808 and 9 but find that they are very noisy on my board so I don't like to use them. I am looking for a replacement, does anyone have a suggestion for a tube screamer type pedal that they like?

I know the Earthquaker Devices "The Plumes" is based off off the TS circuit. I never found it very noisy. It has a three way toggle with a couple different clipping options. It's also very reasonable in price. You can get them new for around 100 bucks and then used for a bit cheaper.

Maybe it’s something else on the board causing the noise?

Seconding what Greg noted re power. If your DC power is feeding the pedals using a daisy chain, that could be the culprit, not the pedals.

I have a TS808 I did from BYOC. It's not amazing, but I haven't found anything that so far crushes it that I've kept it on the board and bumped my build off. The only one that came really close and was a couple heads above was Cusack. They do some cool combinations that include their screamer circuit so you might find something that offers just a little more than what you're currently getting from the TS circuit.

I have a TS Mini that sounds very good. Also, look into the Maxon OD-9, especially if you can find one modded by Analogman. Great TS pedal!
I'm old enough that I have an original 808 from the early 80's that I bought new so I have a very good pedal to use as a comparison.

I have two Wampler Clarksdale pedals on my board and love 'em. Love the 3 band EQ especially.

I always have a little hum from my wife's fish tanks, even plugged in direct. For power I am using a 1Spot CS12 and CS7 with nothing daisy chained.

I have a JHS Bonsai, now a Mr. Sparkle (it’s adorable,) and a Soul Driven. None are noisy in my domain.
The JHS has lots of variants in it, but I find the JHS and Keeley mod settings are the most desirable. The Mr. Sparkle is the coolest looking pedal ever. It’s a good TS, but I haven’t dialed in the perfect sound yet- I went for the version with the bass boost. The Soul Driven is allegedly a TS circuit, but it sounds better to me. That’s my favorite TS variant that I’ve played.
I know that some people have issues with power supplies. Worth checking into.
Let us know what you come up with.

I was able to get my hands on both a Soul Driven and Clarksdale to try out. I was hoping to get a chance tonight to try them but my wife got a new fish tank and stand today so getting that set up is the top priority for tonight! Doing fish stuff makes her happy which makes me happy. A happy wife means more gear!

Are you using a power supply or batteries? I had a T-Rex power supply that caused hum, but only with my Fulltone Fat Boost and none of my other pedals. When I swapped the T-Rex for a Pedal Power II, it's been quiet ever since.

The hum and hiss from the pedals is not loud enough for me to notice when playing really. But when not playing it is noticeable, at least to me!

I don't remember if my 1 Spot hummed with the Fat Boost. Maybe try a battery in the pedal to eliminate it possibly being the power supply.

I have been using a Clarksdale and a Soul Driven and find I like them both. They are both quiet compared to the TS. I took a look at the Tube Screamer circuits (my background is in electronics and chemical instrumentation and IT) and can see why they can be noisy. Also I suspect that I might be having some interaction with other pedals but have not taken the time to verify that.
Back to the Clarksdale and Soul Driven, the Clarksdale is nice but I really like the Soul Driven. It was so easy to dial it in and it is giving me the dirt I am looking for. They both stack well also with my other pedals.

Clarksdale here. If I use it to EQ and add a little dirt at unity level or maybe with a little boost it adds no noise. If I use it for a lot of boost there is some noise, but that mostly comes from it amplifying the noise in the signal being inputted. That is not the fault of the Clarksdale. Could that be the source of your noise?

I've always used TS9 or 808's. Never really felt they were noisey. But I run the drive low and level high. Maybe that's why? In any event enjoy your new pedals!

Could that be the source of your noise? Generally I run my pedals at unity gain and control volume with the guitar so usually I don't have pedal noise. It is very possible that part of my problem was where in the chain I place them. I am using the Clarksdale to add some dirt at unity gain.

That could be part of it for me, I have been running the drive high with a lower level, I should test that sometime. I have really been enjoying the Soul Driven, I have started using it for several songs that I never used an OD with before.

I thought I would post an update. After not using the TubeScreamers for a while I put the 808 back on my board and did not have the noise that I had previously. I am guessing that the problem was more where it was in the chain than anything else. And on another note, my wife took down some of her fish tanks, along with a pretty big pump that was causing a lot of 60 cycle hum when pointed towards it with the guitar. So, in many ways my noise issues have gone away!
