Hi, this is my first time posting to the forum so please alert me if I am missing any rules, etc. I found the Z-Talk forum to be incredibly helpful when I was amp shopping. Finding a store with the Z-Plus in stock - let alone a store open during COVID - was not possible. I also found the Dr. Z AMA youtube videos awesome and super helpful. That said... My Story...
I had just purchased a Fender '68 Deluxe Reverb and it was pretty much un-usable. Incredibly noisy, problems with the trem circuit, I could go on and on about why I ended up returning that amp but i'll spare you. I had purchased it from Sweetwater so they let me roll over my funds and I put that to good use and bought the Z-Plus. There are only a handful of videos online demoing the Z-Plus and after being burned by the Fender amp I was scared to double my purchase price on an amp I had never played in person.
I bought it. I love it. I LOVE it.
I have a YouTube channel, mostly about Indian Classical Music, but I also make videos about guitars so I am planning to make an in-depth review of the Z-Plus. Do any of the users of this forum have any complaints about your Z-Plus? I've been trying to come up with some negatives, but I don't really have any. Maybe a second footswitch to turn the reverb on/off (or something similar to the variable boost that would toggle a second reverb setting) but that is more of a "wish list" item and not a complaint.
Are there any features that you find make this amp super special? I find the cleans to be incredible. The reverb sits really well in the audio mix too, it never overpowers even when it's pretty high. I also find that the Z-Plus makes each guitar and pickup combo sound more like itself. My Strat sounds more like a strat and each pickup option sounds more unique and more "neck" or more "bridge" Same with my humbucker guitars and their pickups. I assume this is because of the extra harmonics in the Class A design.
While I learn the Z-Plus more and work on my full length review/demo it would be great to get feedback from other Z-Plus owners.
I filmed a First Impressions video with about 7 minutes of me jamming on the amp. If anyone has made it this far in my long post and wants to learn more about the Z-Plus the video might be helpful.
You can watch it here:
If you want to skip the part with me talking about the amp you can click this link and jump right to the audio demo:
Thanks!
