After a while does an EF 86 just loose its sparkle? My z28 was just sounding blah, so I pulled the EF86 and swapped it with another of the same brand and vintage. More high end, better feel, back to what I remember. So do I keep the tube or what, this is my first EF 86 Amp.

If it is good enough to get you through a gig, if your new tube dies suddenly , then sure keep it around as a back up. If you could not live with that sound probably toss it.

^ yup. I'd probably put a sharpie mark on it just so you don't get it confused some day. I put an "B" (backup) mark on tubes like that. If they are noisey or problematic I chuck em.
