We’ve been talking a lot about the diversity of this amp. Here’s you another interesting setting. I still play my Cure a lot! It is my staple amp for blackface style tones. I always run the volume on it at 2:00 for breaking up tone and then turn the guitar volume down to clean it up. I can get the CAZ to that tone. Here’s how. I have Sensitivity just a touch above 9:00 and the Gain just a touch below 9:00. I have Aggression turned all the down. I then plugged it into the Gold I have in my Cure. They are virtually the same tone and same dynamics. Incredible! Here’s where I have the controls on both amps: Cure: V:2, T:2, M:12, B:10, MV:12, L to taste. CAZ: S:Touch above 9; G: Touch below 9; T:2, M:12, B:2, A:OFF; P:touch above 2, L: to taste. Doc said one time in one of the early threads that the CAZ really didn’t sound like an American toned amp, but I will disagree with him in a good way. You can get Cure tones in it too. It really is an amazing amp. Keep Rockin!

If I had to only own one it would be the CAZ! I find new tones every time I play her!

I dialed in this for a warm, vintage OD for my 335 through a Marshall BB extension cab loaded with Cream Alnicos:
L-9:00 P-10:30 A-off B-2:30 M-2:30 T-11:30 G-3:00 S-9:30

Russell, my Cure is here with my CAZ. I look forward to trying out your settings. I’m thinking you will be surprised at how close they are. I’m using a Heritage H-535.

My Cure has been updated so it's voiced a little differently...but I'm going to have to try this too. I totally believe that the CAZ can cop the tone, it's like a swiss army knife amp.

Regardless, I don't think I've tried the sensitivity that low and the gain that high. Aggression totally off is interesting too. This really is a different amp that can be shaped all over the place.

Yeah, I know it is a bit counter-intuitive and I would never run those sensitivity and gain settings on my Carol-Ann, but this tames the high end grind, gives it a softer attack and fattens the signal considerably on this amp. It gives it a hot Plexi tone that works well with PAF-type pickups. From this starting point, you can use the gain to adjust the OD, use the aggression to dial in a faster attack or use the sensitivity like a clean boost to extend highs and lows. I haven't tried it at gig levels yet but the levels I test with at home are pretty good starting points. This really is quite the remarkable tube amp.

I didn't get to a true a/b test (using the same speaker), but you're right: they are fairly close. Keeping gain and sensitivity low seems to be key.

^^^ Yeah. I'm sticking with the "all-gain" amp moniker
