There's a brand new Z-wreck Jr. available at a shop half an hour from me. I'd love to go try it, but I know I'll want it and I just bought a Marshall JCM 800 4010 two weeks ago and can't really justify another amp right now.

I suppose I could, but it'd have to replace an amp or two. Not only for financial reasons, but I've run out of space in my "studio"! The most obvious choices would be my Dr. Z Cure or Nova and/or Avatar 45 head a cab. I doubt giving my buddy's daughter a little Hiwatt Bulldog 10 practice amp counts.

Don, it would be great to show some gear self control and just go play it so you know what it's like for future decisions . They don't last long in stores so don't hesitate . I received 47 orders for Z Wreck Jrs. in the month of January . That is an astounding clip , there are 20 working days per month so that's more than 2 a day. Not trying to boast , just amazed. DR.Z

Well... normally I'd take Dr. Z's advice, but this time I didn't! I played the amp, loved it and brought it home. I figured that I'd hold off for a few months, at most so I might as well give a local shop the money now rather than someone else later.
I tested it with a Tele at the store and didn't hear it with humbuckers until I got home. Wow! Great blues rock amp! I love amps that respond well to picking attack and the guitar's volume control and this amps excels at that (as expected).

It's funny how buying an old amp vs a new amp are such opposite experiences!
I bought an all original 1982 Marshall JCM 800 4010 50 watt Master Volume combo two weeks ago. That involved years of looking for the right amp to come up locally at the right price, meeting the guy, hearing the amp, using my experience in amp repair to determine what the amp most likely needed, taking the amp apart, diagnosing its minor issues (it really just needed long overdue maintenance), ordering electrolytic capacitors and tubes, replacing the electrolytic capacitors and B+ dropping resistors, installing and biasing the power tubes and enjoying the amp.
Buying the Z-Wreck (and my Cure a year and a half ago) involved keeping an eye on local shops for one to arrive (I'm fortunate that Ray Mullin Music and Matt's Music are so close), trying it, liking it, trusting in Dr. Z that it's a great design and well built, buying it and enjoying the amp.
Then there's the even more drawn out process of building my own amp. I've done it several times and highly recommend it- not to save money, but because it can be fun and rewarding.
I enjoy all of these experiences. Sometimes I even play a little guitar!

Just grabbed an all stock 65 Showman and did the same. Just before that I built a 64 Princeton. I was feeling weird last week, as I’ve neglected my Z’s for the fun of building and vintage repairs. Plugged into them and was immediately reminded how amazing they are. Regret letting them sit unplayed for so many weeks.

This amp sounds great with a Catalinbread Topanga in front of it, even with the buffer on and reverb bypassed. It adds a presence and little grit that cleans up well on top of the amp's grit that cleans up well.
