Hey gang!
Still in the honeymoon phase with my Wreck Jr. Seriously one of the best amps I have EVER played/owned. Anyways, I own the head and have been running it now for the last few months into my Allen Amps Accomplice combo with a Eminence RWB 120W speaker that came with the combo. Sounds killer! I have a Chinese Greenback that I have also swapped out and used, but even though the Dr. himself recommends and uses the Greenie in the combo of the Wreck Jr., I don't prefer the sound of it at least compared to the RWB.
Long story short, I can pick up a Celestion Blue for a great deal from a buddy and want to do some speaker swap experiments. That speaker is rated at 15W and the Wreck Jr. is 15W, but I understand this is conservative and it can actually be as high as 18W. Any reason that the Blue wouldn't work? I have read countless threads saying the 15W rating on the Blue is very conservative and that several amp makers even use/sell their 18W combos with the Blue (I think Z himself sells/sold the Maz 18 and Carmen Ghia combos with the Blue as an offering). Just making sure before I pick it up and can safely use the Blue. I'm pretty sure it won't be an issue, but want input as well.
BTW - I only play the amp at maybe up to and NEVER over 1/2 on the master volume anyways as I play at home mostly these days.
Thanks all!

I've never owned a Blue but I've used a Greenback with my Maz 8 and a Z28. The Greenback gave up the goods too soon for me even in smaller venues so I don't think the Blue would make you happy unless you always play at low volumes. If you are after the chime the Z Wreck can deliver I'd look for a Gold or something similar in the Alnico family. BUT, bottom line let your ears decide what works for you. If you can get a good price on the Blue you could always sell it and not take a huge loss. Have fun with your tonal journey!

I'm curious, let us know how that sounds when you get it.

Ooh yes. I would love to hear a sound sample of that. Preferably volume at 11 o clock or more, sort of half dirty. Treble and cut past noon too if I can be so obnoxious as to submit requests When I played the jr I was able to turn the cut up all the way with the warm greenback and it not be overly bright. Although I like that vox chime in high doses.

Just put a blue in my maz 18 reverb and its the best tone ive heard yet (in all these years) and have had several 18's...Had ruby in for a while and really dug the subtle thing it had going on,and also had new gold for a week and was looking for something less in your face is the only way I can describe it...the blue has life,bounce,immediacy...some real mojo I have not heard from other speaker ive had...One guy "maz/blue combo thread" said don't worry about rating...he uses his maz dimed and never had a problem? I will add that I did pickup a nice used creamback alnico as well...after reading that it does have a blue thing going for it with highs somewhat subdued...that now resides in maz 18 nr were its punchier preamp works real well with it...its not a blue, but somewere in between gold/blue is what im hearing, but don't be put off about 90 db rating...its a great speaker as well.

The Greenback is the recommended speaker for the COMBO amp. If you have a head and our 1x12 extension (that can be converted to open or closed back), you will find that a few different choices will give you great results, the Blue included especially in open back. The V30 is also a good choice in closed back configuration with the ZW Jr. The Greenback is still a fine choice in the extension, especially if you prefer the warmer sound.

Any thoughts on a 212 cab open/closed with a pair of Greenbacks? Just curious. Thanks in advance and cheers always Joel

Dr Z Stangray which is 30w amp was always recommended with 2 Blues, so I dont see any issues running Z Wreck Jr with 1 Blue. I bet it will sound great

Plenty of high end and sweet lows....sounds big and open even with a closed back. I have an open back Komet cab coming with a pair of the Celestion Cream Alnicos and I'm really looking forward to that option with the Jr.
