Hi everyone. I just received my 2004 Maz 18 back from the doctor with the mkii upgrades. I have been lusting after the Z wreck junior since before it came out but now that I have my Maz18 back, I really wonder if I even need it. The mkii sounds so amazing to me and the gain sounds are really quite wonderful and it’s really great to have usable onboard Reverb. The touch sensitivity is amazing too. Since I got it back, I have barely used my pedalboard with it, the gain is truly amazing. I have owned this amp for so many years and am so stinking happy with it, yet my Wreck Jr GAS persists.
The wreck Jr has no loop and no reverb. The MAZ is proving how little I need a pedalboard.
So to those that own both, if you were in my shoes would you continue saving for the Wreck Jr, or call it good and start shopping for that Flying V you’ve always wanted?

The choice is simply, do you wanna own 1 great amp or 2? :-)

I would save for both! if we don't have a few things to look forward to in life, there's no point in living! (I was tempted to buy a V this weekend)

The choice is simply, do you wanna own 1 great amp or 2? :-) That’s true. I guess I should clarify: I have a lot of amps and most of them are great: Maz 18 (now mkii) Stang Ray (amazing) Fender silverface champ (my only vintage) PRRI with tweed (Marty Stuart amp) Mesa TA 15 (my first “vox”) Mesa DC5 (my first amp ever from my childhood, now a “pre-gibson”!) Vox AC4 Blue 1x10 (currently on the chopping block, sorry little guy) Selling the blue vox at the moment, but I was surprised to see so few listings for it online and now I wonder if I should hold onto to it? My wife says it’s the cutest anyway. Most of these are sentimental and used often, but the Wreck Jr calls to me...and I have financial responsibilities. I am truly amazed at how the mkii upgrade has kind of made obsolete the champ, TA, AC4, and the Princeton.

Well this Wreck Jr is quite amazing! I am happy to have both the Maz and the Wreck. They are both such great amps. I am so curious to see what the wreck sounds like with my weber blue dog alnico. Time is limited due to kids and puppy. Here are a couple vids (if I linked correctly) of the exciting arrival day and evening:
Unboxing (cuz that’s a thing now):
First plug in:
With some pedals:
I’m very happy with this amp!

Sounds really good. I use mine for rock and blues music. It's a very versatile amp. I think it kills just straight in with no effects. It has great dynamics as you now know!

Thanks! She’s pretty great! There is a YouTuber called Uncle Doug and his old dog rusty was in charge of receiving sweet vintage amps for repair. Rusty has since passed. RIP. Was reminded when Lucy was all over the box. ☺️

Was reminded when Lucy was all over the box. ☺️ I have a dog named Cooper. He has become our 3rd child. He likes to make appearances while I’m on work video calls. I just announce to my customers that Cooper has come into the office and we all get a chuckle! lol

Hi all, I made a video comparing the two amps. I have been mostly playing the wreck, so it’s nice to hear the MAZ again. I used my fave delay and reverb with the wreck as I have a hard time playing it dry. I’ll get there.
I hope someone finds this helpful. Of course the feel of these amps can’t come thru a video which is the main difference, but hopefully some of it comes across.

Love the comparison video The Wreck has nice lower mid push. Makes it nice and full without losing that clear top end that both amps share.

Great video, thanks for taking the time to film, edit and upload this!
The Wreck has so much presence and notes seem to jump out of the speaker to fill the room, and the clarity exposes if you’ve ‘got it’ or not!
The Maz wasn’t too shabby, but I definitely chose the right amp for my needs, and you’ve reminded me that I really must start playing with my guitar’s volume a bit more at home as that clean-up is insane.

Great comparison. Thanks for doing that. What speakers are in each? If they are different speakers, I wonder how similar they would sound if they had the same speaker.
