I was preparing to practice, powered up the amp and it was noisy. The amp was set up the same as the previous practice sessions. If I turned the volume up or down the noise increased or decreased in volume. I turned the all the knobs up and down, turned the standby off and on. Finally I shut the amp down, waited a minute and started it back up, everything was fine! Should I be concerned or do I just move on? I purchased the amp new, it's about one year old.

If it was me, I'd move on until it did it again. It didn't happen to be crackly noise that came in spurts, was it? That is often caused by a cell phone in the vicinity of the amp. It's a regular phenomenon these days with cell phones and tube amps.

It was the sound of the amp and guitar turned up to max volume, at idle. Just sitting there. My telecaster has the noisless pickups and is very quiet. The Z-Plus also is very quiet. So it was really noticeable.

So it was really noticeable. That noise may have been a precursor to an upcoming tube failure. I have had similar sequences on various amps with a tube eventually going out. Keep your eyes and ears on it

Appreciate the information. I'll start reading z-talk threads regarding diagnosing tube problems and failures.

If you don't have a set it may be a good time to purchase a full set of replacement tubes, this way instead of waiting for a tube to fail you can replace one at a time to see if a particular tube IS failing. Plus, it is always a good idea to have an extra set - just in case!

Hmmm, for me the unusual noise in my Z-Plus is me plugged into it
