I have had my Cure for about 8 months and have always been curious to try other speakers. The ones I have had around the house have been British styled speakers and so far, I have not liked them with the Cure.
I have been intrigued by the Eminence GASC64 speaker for some time so I just bit the bullet and ordered one.
Man, I am glad I did. What an awesome sounding speaker. It's kind of similar to the Z12 but not as bright and a little thicker in the low mids, like exactly what I wanted out of the Cure. It's still breaking in but I am sure I dig it.
BTW, I ran a bunch of other amps through the GA (in the cure cab) and the all sound great thru it.

Hmmm... I have the GA10-SC64 (10") in a Princeton Reverb clone, love it, and have wondered how the 12" GA-SC64 would sound in the Cure.

I use a GA-SC64 with my Cure, but have the amp in a head cabinet and the speaker is either in an Allen cabinet or another similarly designed 60's Fender style cabinet. I like this combination a lot.

I just swapped the stock Z-12 out for a Tone Tubby Key Largo Alnico. I'm liking it so far. It's definitely quieter. Which is good for me as I'm an at home player. It also has a bit more clarity to it. It also seems to have a bit more top end. I'm sure the speaker will also smooth out as it breaks in, but yeah, definitely liking it.

I got my Cure, used, less than a week ago. About 24 hours after I got it, I ordered a GA-SC64. It was a bit of an impulse buy. I recently put one in my Gries 5, a Champ-style amp, and it's excellent. Also, I didn't quite "get" the Z-12 yet. I usually know better than to decide on gear within a day or so, but I love the GA-SC64 in the Gries 5 so much, and it gets so much praise, and the Cure is "Fender-ish", and I hadn't quite "gotten" the Z-12 yet (after a day of ownership!), so I bought a GA-SC64.
And then I spent a lot of time playing through the Cure. I also watched a couple of the Dr.'s videos about the Z-12 and related matters. If I'd done those things before buying the GA-SC64 for the Cure, I might have refrained from doing so. Not that there's anything at all wrong with the SC64; I love it in the Gries 5 and it's pretty obvious that a lot of people are having similar positive experiences. But the Z-12 has really come alive. I don't know if it's the speaker or the amp, but the Cure has a much bigger soundstage than the Gries 5. There's more information, for lack of a better term, and the Z-12 presents it, without "failing" by (for example) losing details, or becoming overbright, or any of a number of pitfalls that speakers with lots of 6v6-driven signal can fall prey to. I would use the term "analytical" to describe the detail of its presentation, but that term is often used in audio talk as a criticism, contrasted to "warmth". The speaker doesn't lack warmth; it just give lots of detail.
Basically, I'm finding the Z-12 to be a fascinating way to present 6v6 sound. The GA-SC64 is on its way, and I'm almost certainly going to install it, because that is what we do. Whether I keep it....either way, it'll be a fun trial-by-sound.

I go back and forth between the Z12 and the Eminence C-Rex - both sound mighty fine. The C-Rex was recommended years ago in the Cure section so I tried it and liked it. I have an ET65 in the closet I may try but I'm too comfortable with the two others (probably because with the quarantine I don't have an opportunity to crank the amp with the ET).

Hey guys, I have had the cure for 2 years and love it! My question is about using three renal speaker jack. I have an 8ohm Austin Speaker Works “peacemaker” speaker. Is it ok to unplug the internal speaker and use only the external, or does the internal speaker always need to be connected. Thanks for your responses.

Oops! I meant to write “using the external speaker jack” not renal speaker jack

Is it ok to unplug the internal speaker and use only the external, or does the internal speaker always need to be connected. Thanks for your responses. Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I would always keep a speaker load plugged into the internal speaker jack. If I understand correctly, I believe the "External" jack is more for connecting an extra speaker to the amp. That being said, if you have a separate 8 ohm speaker cabinet that you want to use instead of the speaker in the Cure cabinet, then you should be able to plug that cabinet into the "Internal" jack in place of the Cure's primary speaker.

Oops! I meant to write “using the external speaker jack” not renal speaker jack I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like both speaker jacks are the open type and you can use either one, unlike on old Fender amps where the internal speaker jack was grounded when nothing was plugged into it and always had to have a speaker plugged into it even if the external jack was used.
