Hey guys- Ive had the Z-Plus for about 2 years and want to pull the trigger on a new tube upgrade. I have been a fan of Tung-Sol (which are installed), but if anyone could share their experience with other brands? Ive not had good luck with JJ's in my Fender amps, and I don't want to go the NOS if I don't have to. Reverb has a TungSol set for $160 complete.
If this is already out there somewhere, I apologize. Thanks for your input

I've been around the tube rolling block hundreds of times and from my experience the tubes that Doc recommends always sound best.

^^agreed. Doc has already tube rolled in the design phase. I too just replace with what he specs. It assures that awesome Z tone.

I generally agree with the others, but if you hav e some different tubes around, try 'em out. I have a Tung-Sol in the phase inverter spot of my Cure and like it more than the stock JJ. However, all my other Z's sound best with the stock brand and model tubes.

I also appreciate how they update tube recommendations on the website. It’s helpful to know with some quality changes in recent years what the shop thinks is best from what is available.

Threw a complete set of new Tung Sol tubes in the Z-Plus. Not a discernible difference to my ears. I think I have to agree- the Doctor's recommendation is spot on. The original 6L 6L6power tubes are JJ's with Tung Sols in the pre-amp, and the Chinese brand rectifier Well now at least I have a back up...
