Ok, here we go. How can I say it? It’s the clearest and smoothest overdrive I’ve ever heard. It has great string to string definition. As Frankie says, it’s immediate! It punches too.
The loop is great. I did have to turn the mix down on my delays, but that was it. It’s really driving the signal.
Pinched harmonics are easy easy easy. Also, there are very pleasing upper harmonics when soloing on the treble side strings up the neck.
It really cleans up well. It’s hard to believe that it can it that clean from so dirty.
The one thing I have to get use to is the SS rectifier. I didn’t know how used to I was to tube rectifiers. It’s tight! But I’m sure that’s part of the string definition.
More to come.

I forgot to mention the level control. It really doesn’t change the sound of the amp. You can really get it down to bedroom levels while keeping all that definition. Unbelievable!

The loop is great. I did have to turn the mix down on my delays, but that was it. It’s really driving the signal. More to come. I think you hit the nail on the head regarding the drive. I still haven't really tried the loop except with some of the synergy stuff and I wasn't jazzed about that, but it makes sense because those things are designed to go into a specific sounding power amp and there's something different about the power section in this amp compared to what I had been using. I don't mean that as a negative in any way though. When I did that, it made me aware of the tonal contribution of the power section to the amp's overall tone. The takeaway for me there was that I trust that that all components of the amp are tuned to work together in a way that piece-meal just doesn't. Like the sum is greater than the whole. I'm just completely sold on Z amps from my minimal experience with them. The caz and maz just kill, and they couldn't be more 180 from each other. I hear that level of quality in clips of the other amps they make too. I wish I had a few more of them, and some day I will. All my other amps just feel B rate now. You have quite an envious selection of Z amps. Curious how you get on with it and your impressions over time. I like the CAZ even more now having lived with it for a while. It probably sounds stupid, but my wife has made multiple comments about the sound quality of with the maz or caz when I play them. She stops to comment and says stuff like "what is that, it sounds great". I've never heard her say stuff like that over the last 25 years. Or "are you using any pedals", and it always seems to be "no, they are off". Maybe something to the Allen and Mike collaboration too. Obviously they both have great ears, but they are different ears, and I'll bet the amp came out better having those two perspectives. Makes me wonder what the whole Z team thinks too, because surely they had input too. Enjoy the amp, life is really short!

What’s really funny is that I’ve not done much knob turning yet. I did an initial set up and it sounded so good I just stuck with it. I can’t wait to get it into a band situation.

I had been a Fender/Marshall guy for 50 years until I bought my first Z amp. I loved it so much that it wasn't three weeks before I bought another. And it snowballed, I've now got 12 Z amps and love every one of 'em for their individuality and usefulness. I still have a few other brand name amps but I never play them anymore. I've got a fantastic 1967 Blackface Deluxe Reverb that I pull out of the closet every year or so. I play it for 15 minutes and it goes right back in the closet, because it just can't beat my Z amps.
Z just knows tone. I love what he once said, "Tone, tone, tone, tone. Is there a substitute?"

I've been using one amp setting and one guitar. I will branch out and try others, but what's really cool is I could do my usual gigs with just those settings and single guitar.

Hey Adam, if you're ever in the vicinity of Westchester County, NY, give me a shout. I have a selection of Zs, including some legacy models, that you're welcome to try out.

I'm just not sure why it took me so long to figure it out. Speaking of amps not being played, does anyone know if there is any truth to running an amp every 6 months or so to keep the capacitors from drying out? Probably wrong internet data being repeated over and over and somehow it becomes truth.

Probably wrong internet data being repeated over and over and somehow it becomes truth. Every 6 months is a bit excessive for modern amplifiers. This was more true in the days of the 50s and 60s. Shutting your amp off without engaging the standby will allow the capacitors to drain their voltage and then recharge upon start up the next time. This operation actually keeps them in good health.

I think I’m down to just having to adjust the overdrive knob for particular songs. More drive or less drive. Both sound great.
