I got one of the lightweight Z Best cabs to use with Maz 38 MKII. It came with the V30/H30 pairing, but I put an M65 in the top position and V30 on the bottom.
I was really not satisfied with some of the overt bass response and it seemed to be lacking full volume compared to another closed back 2x12 with the same speakers. I took some brown packing paper, crumpled it up and stuffed it into the the 3 ports. It made a huge difference in the sound and response, much tighter and clearer to my ears and with a touch more volume. Overall I would just say more responsive. I will have to see what happens if I leave one of the small ports open, but for now I have all 3 blocked.
Try it and tell me what you think.

Are you using it vertically or horizontally (with the ports on the bottom)?

Standing tall, with the Creamback M65 in the top position and the V30 in the bottom.

Need to understand what overt bass response means. Overbearing, loose, weak? Thanks

You certainly can turn the cab into an infinite baffle style cab, but I wouldn’t. Could be you just prefer the sealed cab. I have had and appreciated both a Z Best, a 4x12, a 2x12 Bandmaster, and a 1x12 Z convertible which I use sealed. I never had an issue with the Z Best being “over” in any frequency, just solid and able to be loud without needing a dolly to transport. It’s long throw, so get long cord and stand away to really hear what it does. I like my current Z 1x12 sealed for my needs, but in a bigger environment ( it will never happen again 😁 ) the Z Best is superb. Maybe a pair of greenbacks would work better for you.

My ears hear what they hear. Maybe I could try a set of speakers you suggest, or maybe you could try what I did and see what you hear. If you don't like the result it is easily reversible. If you get a good sound then you get a good sound.

If you get a good sound then you get a good sound. I know what you mean about hearing what you hear, I reserve the right to like what I like as well. As I understand it the port width tunes the bass frequencies and the shelf depth the midrange. The high end is controlled by speaker choice. My Z Best was an old one with Weber made P12Z Alnico speakers (30 watt) which were most like Weber Silverbell Alnico’s with a different dust cover. I don’t have experience with the Celestions you have in your cab. Did you try just blocking the middle port?

I did un-block the bottom port out of the 3, and I did not like the sound as well as when all 3 were blocked. I may continue to play with it to see what different results I can get.
