As a kid my neighbor had an amazing collection of corvairs, turbos and convertables, show car stuff. The bad boy of the bunch had a hot rodded 350 LT1 in the rear sitting on a tornado transaxle, that was quite a hot rod. my friend and I both had VW Bugs, and my neighbor and my friends dad helped my friend put a souped up corvair engine in the back of his bug. The motor hung out the back a bit, and that bug had no troubles lifting the front wheels off the ground! Of course the car was very short lived, but definitely cool while it lasted. My folks had a '60 Corvair, and my mom spun it out on a sweeping turn out in the country. Those cars were light on the front end to start with, I can't even imagine how the 350LT1/Tornado transaxle could be kept on the road! I bet it was fun to drive... Yes - light in the front because that's where the TRUNK was. If you filled the tires as recommended, 25psi in the front, 35 in the rear, everything worked fine. Trouble was, most people didn't bother to READ, and filled everything up 35psi all around. That's how you get a spin out. I almost had to fight the guy at the tire place, who tried to restrain me from letting out 10psi in my brand new tires, until I showed him the spec. These were exceptionally quirky cars, but a lot of fun to drive and to own. There's still quite a cult of Corvair owners out there, and a dedicated parts company. A little like a certain amp company I can think of, except that the Doc's amps are more awesome than quirky.

The V8 was more forward, definitely no backseat after the mod. And that VW w/Corvair motor was probably worse!

There was talk a few years ago about a 2x EL34 Ghia. Now THAT would be a crunchy rocker! Now that sounds wonderful. I notice some builders using 2x el34’s in lower powered (20-25w) amps.

When it comes to being really picky, I was never much of a fan of EL84s when pushed hard with humbuckers. For overdrive with humbuckers, I kind of prefer big bottles. My thoughts exactly!!!!!!!! (But I must admit the el 84 wreck jr really interest me)

Maybe could call it a V6? As in 6v6. Similar to M12. Common car nomenclature too, that plays off Karman Ghia. Or maybe Ghia V6?

When you are done tinkering put it in a blackout head cab with a racing stripe faceplate (with v6 written on the faceplate in silver Sharpie) and I’ll buy it 😉
It would be a good way to use up any racing stripe faceplates if there are any leftover as well. Do it as a limited run and if it works out figure a way to turn it into a production amp at some point, if it makes sense.

Also I’m back tracking on the “Red”, lets do blonde/Oxblood first run.

So what will this amp be named? What’s the American equivalent to the Karmann Ghia?? Corvair Tempest Colt Cougar I'm not sure help me out guys. Z Make it another Ghia. Simply add one, and tweak the names to Ghia UK and Ghia US, or Ghia Beano and Ghia Tweed (or Deluxe). If yer set on The Car Theme, how ‘bout Ghia 283, 289, 302, 318, 327 (all small block, like a <30-watt amp); or Maro, Mako, Pike, Pony, Stang, Stocker, Vette; or a variant of Ghia, like Beetle, Bug, Scirocco, Thing, VW, 911, 914, 928, 944? And, if ya don’t like any of those ideas, just point me in the direction ya wanna go and ask for more. I’d be happy to rack my brain and stir my creative juices for the cause. Curses, I did it again: hit the thumbs-up-button while aiming for the edit-button.

Is V6 too close to a Carr Slant 6?

Is V6 too close to a Carr Slant 6? At the end of the day it would still be a Carmen Ghia (main product) with just a v6 subscript to differentiate it from the original. I would think it would be fine.

I promise if this comes out, I'll buy the first one. I spent all morning playing my Ghia and learning some new songs. I love my Z28, but having a Ghia and Ghia 6V would be a match made in heaven.

Last bump I promise! The Doc has many irons in the fire, and one day I hope to see this come to light. I think it will do as well as the original Ghia, its simple and I'm sure it will be full of tone.

Not to be a downer on this thread, but I was actually looking up this forum for more Jetta info. It seems to me both by name and design that the Jetta was kind of supposed to be a “double Ghia”, not unlike the first Maserati was, sorta? I mean, 7591s running at 30 watts with a similar front end, and the name, well... Anyway, off to the Jetta threads to see whether the tone knob is more like a Reverbojet or a Ghia.

Welcome to the Forum! A lot of good people and information here! The Jetta was not meant to be a double Ghia. It is Doc's take (with improvements) on the Ampeg Jet of the 60s. I've got a '64 Reverberrocket - I'll take the Jetta!

Corvair Tempest Colt Cougar I'm not sure help me out guys. Z How about Buick’s sleeper v6 muscle car from the late 80s (the Grand National). The tricked out model was the GNX and you get to retain the “G” from Ghia. So, GNX. Oh, and if I recall, they only came in black 😎♠️ You could get a red one if you whined enough! LOLOLOL
