Hello everyone!,
I mentioned this in the thread about the bass mod but wanted to start a new thread. I finally got off my lazy butt and sent in my EZG Head for the update! I did want to play it for a while with my new Z 4x10 before sending it to get a good baseline for before and after. More on the cab below.
After speaking with Don I was confident it was worth while for me to send it in. While I never really had an issue with the bass itself, I was more interested in the "current production voicing" that is listed on the good Doc's website.
While I feel it gets the cutting El Mocambo tones like it says on the site, I've always felt it's hard to dial in a more bouncier round Blackface tone with the highs being so strident/hard. This is only IMO, but I think others have felt the same way who were also looking for more of a more traditional Fendery tone hence the latest version of the mod. This is absolutely no diss on the amp, just me wanting to get that last 5 % out of the amp that I already really like.
Don says It will have a better balance on the tone with a nicer break up. Also included is a switch on the back to allow to choose a softer or firmer feel. The amp already sounds huge as is but I'm hoping this mod will allow for more of a cleaner big fat Super Reverb type tone. The mod is $199 with the switch.
One thing I can't say enough good things about, that people may not know of, is the new(er) Z Legend alnico 10" speaker option. I feel this the one of the missing links for what some of us have been missing over the regular Z 10" speaker. I have them in a Z 4x10. I'm hoping that the speakers and mod will have me dialed in to exactly what I've been wanting.
I'll report back once I receive it back.
Thanks, Joe

I hope it works out for you. Keep us pre bass mod EZG owners posted on the results. Really just interested in the bass mod part of the change for my own curiosity. I like the voicing just the way it is.

I like the voicing just the way it is. Thanks, I'm sure it will. I will definitely will report back. Hope to hear something in a week or so. I don't believe the standard Bass mod changes the voicing too much. The one I got smoothes it out a little. Not so hard on the high end. Sounds like the previous person who got this mod was looking same thing as me.

Did you get your amp back? What do you think? I am thinking about sending my EZG 50 in for a freshening and would probably get the mod as well.

Some a to b audio would be awesome. Hard to do without one of each at the same time though.

Sorry for going MIA!! Crazy with work! I', in manufacturing and my work is doing a ton with operation "warp speed".
I did get it back all tuned up, new tubes and the newest mod that Don came up with with the soft/hard switch.
IMO, it was well worth it. Smoothed and evened out the tone for what I was looking for. The highs aren't as hard now. More of a rounder tone, especially with the newer option American voiced Z Legends in the Z 4x10. It's quickly becoming my favorite setup with my Tuttle S style with the Eliis' 50/60 set.
