Update: To those dog-eared contributors to the thread in the EMS forum who said it was RF interference: Nicely done. I found a WiFi expander in the room that I'd forgotten all about. That was it. Specifics in the thread below. NOTE: I have found that after switching the amp off of standby, it takes a few minutes for the noise to start. Maybe there's a marginal component or something that only becomes susceptible to RFI after it warms up enough. I had the same issue in my previous house. My office doubled as my amp/music room in that home and I had a U-Verse gateway, cell phone booster, wireless TV transmitter, etc in that room. My amps always experienced strange noises (hiss, crackling). I'd take the same amp into a different room.....totally silent.
