I was planning on buying a new MAZ 18 head and wasn’t sure whether to get the NR or reverb model. The MAZ gain sounds much more usable now at a reasonable volume than before the mkii update.
Does the NR model still have noticeably more gain than the reverb model? If so, I would probably get the NR model. But if they’re pretty close then I’d probably get the reverb model as I do like reverb with clean settings.
I have a hall of fame reverb pedal so plan on using that in the loop with the NR head. Anyone get the NR model and regret not getting the reverb model? Thanks for any responses.

Thanks I think I am leaning towards getting the NR. I don’t find reverb that useful during gigs, and any extra gain would be a big plus. I have a bunch of celestions that I’d like to try with this amp: 70th, GB, G12-65, and a gold.

Thanks. Below is another good video. The reverb model slants more towards Fender, while the NR towards Marshall based on the videos. I have a Mesa Fillmore 50 for the Fender tones. I had been looking at Vox, and I’ve been happy with their amps in the past but I wouldn’t mind a little more icing which the Maz provides.
I’ve had the Maz 18 and 38 before about a dozen years back, and loved the clean tones but was never able to use the distorted tones in a band because the amp had to be cranked too loud to get to the sweet spot. I hope the mkii still gets the distinctive woodiness in the mids when set to a mid-gain setting. The cranked distortion has a nice thick Marshall sound.
I was also considering the Wreck Jr but I think the Maz jr will provide more versatility, especially with the added loop. I hope the footswitch boost is useful. The 18 I had before had the non-variable EQ boost which was totally unusable.

I've got the 18 NR and love it. It's got more gain than the reverb model does, and it has lots of great sounds in it.

You also might want to consider a Maz 38 with a half-power switch which gives you both an 18 and a 38 - very versatile!

New reverb mod is nice big leap though... quiet,deep...lots of it.NR with pedal is nice and clean...reverb maz is sweet with little more laid back...not as "stark"

Same model I've got. I had the MK 1 converted to MK II and it made a really great amp into a legendary one. You had a MK I so you will appreciate the huge difference in the new Master Volume control. It is really, really good at keeping the tone as you turn it down.
I think you'll love it, looking forward to your thoughts when you get it.

The NR version is more aggressive than the reverb version...But, the reverb version is no slacker on the dirty side of things.
I had an original Mk.I NR model, was one of my favorite amps ever.... Now have the reverb model (started as a Mk.I and is now a Mk.II). Prior to the Mk.II update, I could tell the differences and would have said the NR model was my favorite...But after the Mk.II update, this is in tie for the #1 spot with a couple different amps (including the Z-Wreck)!

I received a mint Mkii 18 NR over the weekend. A great deal from southmusic70. I tried a bunch of speakers: GB reissue, ‘81 G12-65, V30, and the 70th anni. All the speakers sounded good but I found that the EQ knobs had the best range in the G12H-30 anniversary. The mk2 mods are all great. The master volume works great, and the boost footswitch is very useful. Depending on the settings on guitar and settings, this amp covers Vox and Marshall tones very well for me. I didn’t try to dial in any fender tones, but I’m sure they’re there with the right speaker and settings, Just a great amp.
I will see if I can use it in my variety band that plays all types of rock and pop from the 70’s to now. I’ve previously been using my Mesa Fillmore 50 or MkV-90. Might be tough using a single channel amp with distinct character in such a band. It would be perfect for the alt country band I was in a couple years ago. I’m extremely happy with the amp.
