I didn’t mean disrespect in my question, but I’m not wealthy enough to play the new amp of the year game. I’d like to own an amp for a while before feeling like its obsolete. Changes to the amplifiers often do not have anything to do with improving them tonally. In many cases, they are changes to make sure they are consistent tonally from year to year, when parts become unavailable or unreliable or difficult to come by, changes need to be made to insure proper operating conditions. So if your amp sounds good to you and is functioning properly, it's actually no better or worse than the latest model based on the parts it was made with at the time it is made. If there was a substantial update to the amp, we would make it available as new revision. Believe it or not, every company makes silent revisions on their product for reliability and consistent operation as the supply chain changes. Which is why simply changing the rectifier or phase inverter in your older Cure to the latest spec, or for that matter, a newer Cure to older spec will not achieve anything other than simply doing that. Your results will vary. Thanks for taking the time to explain in depth. I definitely didn’t feel this amp needed any improvement in terms of sound, just had concerns about reliability. I should’ve known better since Dr Z. puts out some incredible amps.

Good luck fellow poster, Dr. Z may make good amps, but when I asked him about the new configuration, He told me flat out, He is in business to make money, not give ouT information, so if you want to ask Him, HAVE YOUR WALLET OUT, PEACE. In true narcissistic nature you hate to hear the answer "NO". Z

Yeah, I had a Z-28 that if I remember, I fried a rec tube, and was concerned it had taken out other components. At the time I was a gigging player and I was worried about using the amp if it had damaged components.
Doc said send it to him and he'll personally put it on the bench and check it over....no charge!

I'll just say that Doctor Z Amplification has the best customer service that I've encountered in the music industry, and I've been an active player for over 50 years. I've become a Z customer for life. Ditto, and can't second that enough. My first Z purchase was the maz18 from SW. I watched it fall off the truck on delivery, but took it anyway. Amp looked great so figured no big deal. Had a microphonic power tube that I couldn't figure out. Don walked me through the troubleshooting. Through that conversation, it was obvious the care, love and pride they put into the amps. Don was genuinely happy that I thought the amp was the bomb. Anyway, Don sent me another set of power tubes and viola, problem solved, at Doc's expense which should have been UPS's expense. What a hassle that could have been. Fast forward, one day stumbled on a completely different awesome sound than I think was sort out of the norm for how people would use the amp and felt compelled to share that in a video. Z saw it, and lucky me started to develop a friendship. From that, I've gained a ton of wisdom that you just can't buy anywhere, and even more appreciation for the company as a whole. From there I picked up a used EZG from GC at a decent price. Played it for a few minutes, sounded great, then smoking. Sent it to HQ. Don would send me email updates like (paraphrasing) "I have it working, but the sound isn't right, I'm burnt, I need some more time to mess around with it". In the end I got a killer sounding EZG. That type of attention to detail and care, good luck finding that anywhere. So now I have I think 5 Z amps. I've paid for all of them except one. That one is the Ghia, which I asked Z for, but when it was done, he said "no charge, it's a gift". That thing has turned into my favorite amp, and it just priceless to me. Made by Z, signed by Z. The whole damn thing makes me want to cry.

I'm not aware of any changes either but it doesn't mean there weren't any. Doc or Frankie may chime in. This past Sunday Joshua mentioned that your Cure didn't have as much gain as Dave's did. I wonder if its because they are tubed differently

That being said, if I started posting videos Doc would likely start taking amps back from me, not giving one out

If anyone needs clarification, remoprimo bought a used CURE then before even receiving it, inundated Z, Don, and myself for emails and phonecalls for about a week (of which at least two phonecalls were answered by Z and Don) that included requests for mods we don't offer, amps we no longer make, and pushing his "ideas" on us. I myself received at least 5 emails over the course of a weekend from him. I'm sort of astounded he hasn't be blocked yet.

I wonder if its because they are tubed differently The tubes have a lot to do with it, changing the 12AT7 to a 12AX7 gains it up right there. Then the 5u4 rectifier makes the response a little more compressed. It helps to make sure the bias is running right too.
