I have had a hard time getting along with the Z Best. I’m certain it is a fine cab and that my application of it is flawed, but I always felt like it makes my amps seem warmer. I’m guessing it’s the port giving me that perception. But enough of that story, I traded it to a buddy for a 112 convertible to go with the Therapy.
I also ordered up a gently used Celestion Ruby that arrived yesterday. Looks like the guy never used it. There aren’t even markings on the frame from being mounted to a cab. I am going to assume that it will get even better as it breaks in, but I have to hand it to Celestion. This might be my hands down favorite speaker I’ve paired with the Therapy to date.
It’s got deeper lows than the Blue and slightly warmer than I recall the Gold being, but still has that cool breakup you get in the low end from the Blue. It’s got well balanced highs and mids, and unlike the Blue, it doesn’t pierce my ears (at least that’s been my experience with Blues). Needless to say, I’ve never been a fan of the Blue, but I love the Gold and Cream, and now I love the Ruby. I highly recommend checking this speaker out if you get a chance.

Dammit! Another speaker I need to buy and try now... Sorry to do it to ya. I would’ve normally just commented on my last post since it was most recent, but there’s very few places around on Z Talk discussing the Ruby so I figured it would be easier on those who might be wanting info down the road.

Always nice to read about new products. Hard to tell sometimes how the newer speakers differ from those that have been around. Luckily I am set for speakers, for now...

Hey Stuart, are you concerned at all about the wattage rating? I noticed it’s rated at 35w, which is the same as the Therapy. cuttin’ it close there.

I feel like I’ve heard Doc mention that the actual wattage is less than 35, but that he rounds up as a safe practice. I may be totally wrong on that so don’t use that statement to make any decisions haha. Maybe DRZ can tell us if it’s safe.
