I've got a Gold in my Ghia combo, and it's really, really a great tone. Just too loud for what I'm looking for. I want to be able to open it up a little bit, up around 10 or 11 o'clock and keep the volume down.
I just ordered a 10" Greenback for it. From what I've read it sounds like a great fit...looking forward to Tuesday when it gets here!

That should do it. I'm not a fan of a single 12" Greenback, but the 10" is a great speaker, it will give it up for sure and let you take advantage of pushing the amp. Keep us updated!

I’ll be curious to hear your review. And the results are in! I dig the 10" Greenback, very muscular sounding yet sweet speaker. It is less efficient than the 10" Gold but it sounds surprisingly similar. It shimmers clean and loves to be driven hard, either by the Ghia or by a pedal. I'm really liking it. Sounds great right out of the box, it'll be interesting to see if it changes as it breaks in. I'm happy with it as is, and I hope it doesn't change very much.
Now I need to find out if the Gold will sound good in another 1x10 amp. I didn't care for it much in the Monza, I like the Red Fang better in there. Maybe my Mesa Subway Blues will be a good match. That amp needs some help, but I'm spoiled by Doc's great amps. It doesn't have the 'Tone' that I love, but that's not a big surprise. The Carmen Ghia slays it.

Dave, how do you find the the noise floor at idle to be with the 10” Greenback in your Ghia?
I replaced the 10” Red Fang in my Ghia with a 10” Greenback and found the idle noise had increased substantially. Intuitively one would think the opposite would be true, that is the much more efficient speaker would be noisier. Not so in my case!

I've noticed no change in the noise floor. Maybe since you are able to crank it louder in relation to the Red Fang, the apparent noise is greater. That would be especially true if you had any boost or OD pedal inline.
I wasn't looking for any change in noise, though. When I play it again I'll be listening closer.

I like the tone of the 10” Greenback OK, even though as I mentioned for me the noise floor is a little higher than some other speakers.
But while it is quieter it’s by no means whisper quiet. For strictly home playing a BL might still be needed to get the goods, depending on how quiet you really need to be. I’m thinking about just going back to enjoying the Red Fang.
I look forward to Todd’s shootout with 10s in his new M12.
