I have a 2011 Maz 18 NR 2X10”. Ive been thinking about some Celestion 10” speakers. What do you think of the following choices: 10” Gold, 10” Greenback, 10” creamback.
What differences do you think I’ll notice? I like mixing and matching 10s too. Maybe one gold, one greenback?
Thanks.

I would go 1 gold, 1 greenback. Although, I haven't checked their sensitivity ratings--there's a chance the gold could be much louder than the greenback. (Still would probably sound great, though; just not technically/mathematically perfect.)

I too found Doc’s 10’s with the Maz Jr. To be match made in heaven. If you are looking to swap out Z-10’s, may I suggest doing them one at a time. In other words mix a Z-10 with one of your choices you believe will give what you desire. I have come to like the 10” gold with my Ghia. I like my 2x10 convertible loaded with the Z-10’s, but would like a little more brilliance with my Therapy. SonIm going to add a 10” gold to the Z -10. Seems many here like that combination of speakers. YMMV.

I have run a SINGLE 10" Greenback in my Maz (1x12) and it sounded great. I've done this with a 12">10" adapter ring and also with an external cabinet. I bet two of them in a 2x10 would sound great if you like the GB sound.
I will add that the 10" Greenback sensitivity is 95 dB, so it's comparitively quiet.

I can't comment on the 10's in a Maz 18, but welcome to the forum! You can get most all your questions answered here! The Maz is a great amp though - I've had a Maz 18 1x12 and a Maz 38 1x12 and now have a Maz 8 1x12 combo (along with other Z amps).

I would stick with the Z-10's. Dr. Z spec'd the speaker he wanted for his amps. I had a pair in my (recently sold) MAZ 18 combo and they sounded perfect to me. Trust the Dr. He uses Celestions in many of his amps, but typically not when the amp is fitted with 2x10's. If he thought that Celestion had 10's that would sound better, he would have used them. The man has great ears.

The Doc's 10's are great, but out of the ones you listed the Greenback 10's are a real treat. I do not like the 12" Greenbacks solo but I love the 10's in singles or pairs, all the RNR Crunch with a little top shaved off. Its almost between the standard Greenback 12 and a 55hz 12.
I have to give a nod to the Eminence Red Fang Cermamic or Alnico 10's. I used one of each with my Z28.

If you already have a pair of Doc's 10s in there, I'd leave it alone.
That said: keep in mind, the 10" gold is considerably louder than the 10" greenback. (for the same amount of power) So if you pair those two up, the Gold will be the louder and dominate tone.
Also, 10" Golds are expensive. Putting a pair in your maz will run you $350.

You could try the g10-40n. It is like a Greenback with some added chime. 70 bucks each. (New)

Hmm has the OP not come back and visited the thread since his post? I have the original mk1 MAZ 18 Jr. 2x10 that sounded great but the Z speakers do have a peaky high end that if I dial out enough treble to tame it down, I lose too much of the chime. it gets worse with some pedals and dialing back the treble or tone on the pedals muds things up real quick. I put two vintage JBL D110s in there, which totally got rid of the peakiness, but the amp is not quite as loud (which lets if be driven a bit harder) and that changes everything, mostly for the better I will say. It also lost some of the bottom end and I found that odd being the JBLs go down in frequency well below what most guitar speakers go to. The Celestion Gold looks very tempting, but they roll off at 100Hz. Plus they are expensive as are all alnico 10s. WGS makes a high powered alnico 10" as well, 75w but it rolls off at 82Hz and are even more expensive than the Celestion at $199 each. Weber makes a high powered alnico 10" that is their answer to JBL, it is called the "Michigan 10" and is made with ceramic or alnico magnets, 60w and Weber claims it will go to 40Hz - 45Hz. It is interesting because although it uses an alnico magnet, they also use ceramic to boost the alnico to increase the power, they say that it acts totally like alnico. $194 each currently.
Afaik, none of these alnico 10s that I mentioned are designed to replace the Jensen P10R which is a small voice coil low powered alnico 10" used in classic Fender amps.
I don't know of any retailer that would let me order a speaker to test it then swap it for a different speaker to test, and I am reluctant to drop $400 + shipping not having a decent sound sample to base an opinion on.

I came across a THD 10" speaker after I decided I didn't really like the Red Fang. At some point like 20 years ago THD either went out of business or didn't want to deal with speakers and unload a ton of these into the market at like $25-30 a pop. I really liked in in my Z studio 110, especially with a Ghia, but it I also liked it when I pulled my Maz combo close enough to plug it in. If you hunt ebay/reverb they are easy to find for $50 shipped. www.ebay.com/itm/THD-10-VINTAGE-LEAD-GUITAR-SPEAKERS-8-OHM-RECONED-SOUNDS-FANTASTIC/373143994142?hash=item56e11d7f1e:g:AdUAAOSw~-RfMWAiI haven't played this 10", but I love my Hempopotius 12" alnico in my Maz 112. He does some really creative, fun stuff with newly coned old speakers that sound great. He didn't have any 10" when I was looking but does now. He has a generous return policy if you don't like, but for $44 I would have given it a try. He's also just a fun guy to interact with, might not be all there, but really seems to know his speakers. When I move my Maz into a studio cab and convert my 112 into an extension cab I will be getting a 12" ceramic from him. I think his product at his prices is a total steal in today's gear market. reverb.com/item/36909627-hemp-speaker-10-hempopotamus-hemp-fiber-cone-fat-thick-meaty-3d-tonality-red-eye-frequency-exten
