Hi.
I have a Maz 38NR with 2x10 cab (z design speakers). I’ve always found the sound quite harsh. I’ve been reading all the posts on Celestions but most are about 12”. Anyone have any thoughts on the 10” with maz 38. If love a warmer tone. Could golds or green backs give me that? Or a combo of one each?
Thank you

Both 10" versions of the Celestion Greenback & Gold sound great and are highly recommended around here. Knowing what I do about the Gold vs. the Greenback, though (and this applies to both the 10" & 12" versions), I would say that the Gold is a little bit louder (possibly perceived as harsh) and bigger-sounding than the Greenback--meaning deeper lows & highs. The Greenback to my ears is still very balanced but a little more mid-focused and a touch softer and/or compresses in a nice way.
My recommendation from what you said so far (wanting a warmer tone, and less-harshness) I'd go straight to either 2 x 10" Greenbacks or at the most 1 of each.

Thanks for this. The amp is far too loud for my needs most of the time so perhaps the greenbacks would work better for that reason as well. I can also get 2 greenbacks for the same price as one gold. Are the golds really worth double??

I do not like Greenbacks, but I love the Greenback 10's. They are a great sounding speaker for sure.

I’m going to get some greenbacks but can’t work our what’s going on with the existing speaker wiring. The cab is 8 ohm. Two cables come from the input to the first speaker and then two cables go from that speakers terminal to the 2nd speaker. There is no cable going from 2nd speaker back to main input. It doesn’t look like any series or parallel circuit diagram I’ve seen. What’s going on? What ohm speakers do I need to keep the existing wiring? Thanks

Is this the way it is wired?

Its common to parallel as you describe. Wires from jack to speaker 1 (white +, black -), then again, wires from speaker 1 to speaker 2 (white +, black -). no need for speaker 2 to be wired to the input jack when wired this way. (Btw, could not view your linked image, access denied).

Thank you. How you’ve described it is exactly what’s happening. So just to check they are 16 ohm speakers? Making the cab load 8 ohm. I can’t see anything on the speakers and want to make sure I order the right ones.

2x 16ohm speakers in parallel (wired like I described) makes an 8ohm cabinet.
