So I was fortunate enough to pick up an old Z best for CHEAP from a great feller on here. It's been tweaked over the years though. Came to me with two V30's at 16 ohms (two 8 ohms in series). I've replaced one with a G12H creamback for like a high power Z best at 16 ohms. With my current amp scenario, I'd really like to have the 4 ohm option as well. Plus, parallel just sounds nicer to me sometimes. I have another avatar cab, so I am familiar with their special jack plate. Anyone ever use one? I found one for a fraction of the cost here. Love that I can isolate speakers individually at 8 ohms too. www.amplifiedparts.com/products/jack-plate-plug-and-play-mono-stereoOnly issue will be that it will require some router surgery. Any reason not too? I know replacing speakers back to stock would be an option as well for an 8 ohm cab. That's not really appealing to me right now though. Trying to move speakers online, and then break in new ones. Don't have the time for those headaches at the moment.

The Avatar "multi-jack" is great. Howerver, it is 16ohm when both speakers are working. Each side is 8 ohms.

Glad you like yours, Bodega Ray!
I guess that link wasn't happy. I added an extra space at the end. Fixed now, I think. Yes, this one can run both speakers in parallel at 4 ohms, or series at 16, or individually at 8 each. I believe the Avatar does the same. With a dummy plug, you can even run just one speaker at a time.

If you got the Z Best cheap enough that a resale hit isn't much of a consideration, I'd do it in a minute. I built a 2x12 pine open back cab and put a dual jack in the back so I could play each speaker at 8 ohms and wired up a parallel cable so I could run it as a 2x12 at 4 ohms. I play it 99% as a 4 ohm 2x12 but the option to play each speaker individually is fun sometimes and is very handy for checking out individual speakers.
edited to add that I would personally view it as an improvement regardless of the value\condition of the cab as long as the conversion was properly done.

I got it for $275!!! It’s probably 15 years old I am guessing? Currently, the 8 ohm plastic label on back is already cracked. It’s also flipped around with 16 ohms written on it in Sharpie Then the speakers are different ohms than stock as well. I guess it’s enough of a Frankenstein already that originality won’t matter with resale. I don’t intend to sell it though. If I did, I think this would only offer more flexibility/desirability? More so wanting the flexibility for my own “problem solving” purposes. I’m an unashamed tinkerer. I just get tired of taking the back off to run only one speaker for A/B with new amps, etc. Kind of wearing down the wood in the screw holes too. Have already patched three of the holes (bad when I got the cab). Plus, some of my amps don’t do 16 ohms. Only 4 or 8. This would solve all those problems. Think I’m gonna go for it!

The V30 + H30 Creamback is suppose to be really nice sounding, bet it sounds great. Seems like a worthy mod!

The V30 + H30 Creamback is suppose to be really nice sounding, bet it sounds great. Seems like a worthy mod! I had the V30/G12H30 (70th ann) in an Avatar semi-open back for years. I think I got that one back in 2006 when they shipped for $325 brand new Eventually swapped the V30 for a Blue. I'd say the Creamback pairing is a little warmer and a touch more honky than the "standard" pairing. Especially at 16 ohms in series in a closed back. Maybe not better, or worse. Just different. I chalk that up to the Creamback H just being fuller in the mids and warmer on top than the G12H30. More similarity (frequency overlap) with the V30 than the G12h30 would have. 4 ohms seems to tighten things up a bit, in a good way. Excited to have options though, without having tp unscrew the back

Surgery complete! So convenient now to have options. Felt good closing that back panel up for what I intend to be a very long time. Z Best, now even Bester??? I know it won't apply to most Z best cabs, but I'd highly recommend that plate for anyone running two 8 ohm speakers. While I am a happy Avatar customer as well, they charge a whopping $60 for their version of the exact same thing. This one does it all for a third of the price.

I'm late to the party:
I was going to say that enlarging the hole for the jackplate is minimal. I'm willing to bet most people won't even know you did it.
