Ray, longtime Z28 user, came by for a taste test. He brought his Z28 along and we dialed them in together and just let it rip off the cuff:

Nice video Frankie! But what's the red head in the background on the right??? Updated Z 80 Mid control, PPIMV, and Metro Loop. Nice. I think I’ll keep my bare bones 3-knobber 😎 I assume that’s the CAZ in the blonde head shell in the middle?

However, I think I'll just keep it the way it is Besides, as good as our shop is in getting items FedEx'd across the border, there's a 50/50 chance one of us gets tagged with import taxes on the value of the amp and once they are assessed, it's almost impossible to argue they don't apply (i.e., amp was 'repaired', upgraded, etc.).

Oh yeah, I gotta have that. The best tone I ever had was 3-3-3 on my 1-10 Z-28 outside. But it was waaaay too loud inside, so let it go.
This new one with a master volume, effects loop, and a 12” Greenback sounds like it was made for me.

Sounds huge with the Lester. Well done, Doc! The distortion on this model is impressive. Probably my favorite part, it gets gainier and more robust with the master volume in circuit, so you can really drive the pre stage.

GREAT sounding amp Doc, well done! If I was in the market for a brand new amp, this would be the one.
That heavy OD sound was killer. That said, it didnt really sound like my old Z28.

I'm hooked!! I love my Z28 and have been super excited since you talked about doing this one.
Little hard to tell, but is the low end still tight?

Beautiful sounding amp. I still say the Z-28 is one of Doc's best. This new version sounds fantastic. I wish I could hear a clip with a strat.

Is that chassis on the Marshall cab behind the blonde CAZ another CAZ prototype? I can't quite make it out, but it is three letters and looks similar to the other one.
Z-28 Mk II sounds terrific too!

Yes good eye, that CAZ prototype ver 2.0. I built the CAZ-45 Ver 3.0 on the larger Z Lux chassis for more room to add Buffered Tube driven 12AU7 effects loop and the LEVEL circuit. Yes the Z 28 MKII sounds amazing , strong, punchy , and more gain , great Effects loop, and Master volume for much better volume control. Z

The term in the video sounds great and I love having the option of putting what ever verb or ambient sound in the FX Loop.
