Here's a picture of the contacts you need to clean. Cut a strip of printer paper about 1/4" wide and maybe 5" long, and insert it between the contact points. Saturate it with DeOxit or any good contact cleaner and pull it through the contact points. You'll see a black line of oxidation come off onto the paper. The paper is just abrasive enough to polish the contact points without damaging the plating. This is one of my favorite shop tips.
