I've got a Maz18NR and I'm starting to develop a popping sound, it's not all the time but it does seem to be occurring more frequently. It sounds similar to plugging you guitar in minus the hum noise. Thoughts?

I call them floaters, as they seem to float in make a small snap and then go away. that's my 2 cents, but probably only worth a penny

>95% of the time issues like this are tube related. I’d start there. Good luck.

If you don't use your effects loop very much, the shorting jack in the amp may have become intermittent. Try plugging a cable between the in and out loop jacks and see if that fixes it. If it does, some DeOxit on the jacks and exercising the jacks by plugging/unplugging into them should fix it.

Would a patch cable for a pedal be sufficient and could I leave the cable in for the time being?

That's fine, and you can leave it in there as long as you want.

And, based on Dave’s recommendations some time ago on this forum, consider getting a pack of these - makes cleaning 1/4” jacks a snap. Spray with deoxit and run it in the jack - better than using a guitar cable and easier on the jack. .22-.25 caliber. The bore brush is great for cleaning the barrel and tip contact points, but if it's the switching part (which is going to be the problem if the popping sound is coming from the jacks) you need to do this:
Here's a picture of the contacts you need to clean. Cut a strip of printer paper about 1/4" wide and maybe 5" long, and insert it between the contact points. Saturate it with DeOxit or any good contact cleaner and pull it through the contact points. You'll see a line of oxidation come off onto the paper. The paper is just abrasive enough to polish the contact points without damaging the plating. This is one of my favorite shop tips.

Update: the power tubes were the issue. I tried the effects loop to no success so I swapped the tubes and the issue went away. Now the only downside is the tubes I had available suck all the bottom out of the amp, oh well, I’ll place an order with tube depot and and get a new set on the way soon enough. Thanks for the help guys!
